Phil Gould will part ways with Penrith on Wednesday once the club’s board signs off on his resignation.

Gould will end his role at the Panthers and the club is poised to make an announcement.

The Penrith board will meet on Wednesday where the termination will become official.

JUST hope the Knights are not talking to him....were got enough troubles. NO NO NO. joe

I'd say he will land at the sharks. He lives in the shire.

Pffft Gus is one of the best things to happen to Penrith. Club reeked of mediocrity after it won in 2003 and fluked a finals appearance in 2010 with Dud Elliot before turning things around on and off the field.
Now they are taking advantage of their incredibly large junior base and aren’t overpaying for them.

Everyone’s issue (take out of account the dislike for his commentary) is that they believe the media (telecraps/Foxsports ) bias against him most of it which over the years has been proven to be untrue.
Too many examples to list here.

His footy knowledge is second to none and that is undeniable. He has more knowledge about everything footy related in his pinky then most journalists that publish the negative dribble about him do covering the game their whole lives.

100%. Their development system is the envy of the league. To think we have similar junior numbers and a larger catchment yet in recent years we have had very few juniors to go on to become dominant first graders

There is quite the list of local NRL players who went to other clubs. Some old some new.
Michael Ennis
Boyd Cordner
Aiden Tolman
Latrell Mitchell
Josh Jackson
Greg Bird
Jamal Idris
Anthony don
Tim Browne.

Their initial plan was to have upwards of 70-80% of the team come from within.

Their second initial plan from their pathways development program (can’t remember the name of the guy who came up with it but Gus mentions him in one of his articles) was to have one player graduate from this program and be in the full time first grade squad every season. Which isn’t as easy as it sounds.

After the initial years where the team was projected to be bad and come close to last place the team improved making the finals in four of the last five years so something was working.
Plus they were killing it reserves too.

I think the hard work has been done and there is probably more...but Bennett was the plan to take the one step further and looking at South Sydney’s roster and considering it is not THAT much better then Penriths you wonder what could have been if Gus was allowed to hire Bennett noting it would have been a temporary thing before bringing in another coach to succeed him.

It would be interesting if Gus landed at the Knights and honestly I would welcome it.

Even as a 1 year mr fix it deal.

We have been a plod of a club for far too long, something just does not seem right internally at the Knights as we keep hearing how we are on the up but keep getting let down. Is it a culture problem at the club?

Gus is a straight shooter and if there is a problem here, I am certain his would identify it and bring it to light.

Browns original plan was to develop local talent and sprinkle some quality imports to help. That hasn't worked at all and the few promising young players we had are now making NRL appearances elsewhere.

If gus can get our junior systems better he would be worth it. He also has great clout in the game and could secure us a quality coach we seem unable to attract.

Don't mind Gus but don't agree we need him. Money could be better spent elsewhere...more on junior development and coaches e.g... attacking coach

Think he's always been available and imo neither he or his bro have proven anything with regards to coaching

Don't know how you can say that. All the best playmakers in the game have spent time working with one or other of the Johns brothers and all have said it improved them a lot.
Even last year we sent Kalyn Ponga, Nick Meaney and Connor Watson to work with Matt Johns, and 2 of those 3 went ahead in leaps and bounds as playmakers last year.

Brian Canavan has just started in his position and is one of the smartest operators in the game. I'd leave it to him rather than chase Gus. I'm definitely in the Gus is a terrible commentator but smart football operator. But Brian is the future for the Knights.

You can't really pinpoint anywhere they've had success. They've prob worked with every half and their dog. And like you and I, we say things out of respect regarding comments feom kp etc. 3 clubs I've heard they've worked at...storm, roosters, sea eagles...strong culture, strong culture, classic halves pairing of dce and foran and strong coaches in place already

Yep. Gus would be the guy who would come in after the disaster Tinkler/Bennett left the club in. Not once West’s have taken over and managed the books to turn a profit.
