Danny Levi requests a release

All this talk of Levi not fighting for a spot is as far off the mark as any of the nonsense you see on this site.
I went to the reserve grade game at Wyong last year, just after Levi had talked to Brown about whether he was wanted at the club.
Brown and Shepherd were there, clearly to watch Levi.
Levi played 80 minutes and tried to do everything himself. He got 2 try assists and ran the ball every chance he got, and even took on the goal kicking.
By the end of the game he was physically exhausted and they tried to get him off the field for the last 5 minutes, and he refused to go. The ref was even talking to him and looked like he was asking him if he should go off or not. I was near the sideline and you could hear the Wyong players telling each other to run at Levi because he was exhausted, but he kept making his tackles.
He was back in firstgrade the next game, and he put every bit of effort in him into that game.
If Brown hadn't picked him after that effort, the whole team would have rightly concluded that Brown's talk of rewarding effort was all ********.
Ah but Brown did pick him so it was'nt ******** .

There is a lot of ******** on here based around news articles and assumptions.

Levi barge overs he got more under control last year, as he did with the quick tap when a penalty is given. Plenty of times he would rush over and grab the ball only to flip it to Pearce for a touch finder.

On here, once your designated whipping boy it's a hard moniker to shake.

He has come out recently saying he isn't taking his spot for granted and is working hard to secure his spot. Not sure what else he can say really.

Same for Ross. Moga arrives and jogs the ball mostly. Ross gets chit for being out of position based mostly on one play where Ross came in for a hit up out of our own end. Played the ball and it went to his wing to Morgan Moga no look passed and Ross wasnt there yet that is Ross fault lol. Moga should have looked.

Anyway, very easy to earn a rep on here.
Yep ask Brown lol.

Personally im glad we have the players we have including Levi and Ross , they are both good players and Levi especially is only going to get better .
It adds to the pressure to play well or lose your spot and it strengthens reserve grade too .
When was the last time we looked at the side and said yep we have a side that should make the finals . We all know a lot of things have to fall into place and a lot of luck too before you even make the finals but its nice to think we have a team that could do it .
Imo we would have made the finals last year except for injuries , injuries to Pearce mostly killed us but the Ponga and Watson ones put the nail in the coffin .
The boys put in as hard as they could last year but without those guys it was just too hard. I do believe we would have made at least 8th place and that would have been with a whole new spine that never played together before .
Cant wait for next season .

“Honestly, I was a bit pissed off about it [not being in the top grade],” Levi told the Newcastle Herald on the eve of the Knights’ clash against the Eels at McDonald Jones Stadium.

“I can’t help how I was feeling. I thought I had done enough to prove that I belonged there but those types of things happen. I know it is not just me.

“There was no use kicking stones but I felt like I deserved to be in the first grade squad which is why I thought about looking elsewhere.”

“At the time I was playing reggies but I thought I’d done enough to at least earn a bench spot.”

I couldn't find the article but Toohey also reported that if we signed Isaac Luke Levi would ask for a release

So I would suggest this 'nonsense' you speak of Billy isn't 'as far off the mark' as you suggest

I only remember one game where Levi’s decision to take the quick tap instead of the 2 points on offer was what cost us, can’t remember who it was against. But I remember him doing a barge over against the Titans in which we had already had the game won and fans complained because he didn’t give it to Pearce to take a field goal.

What part of that article about Levi thinking he was doing his best and deserved to be picked do you interpret as "I'm not trying - Danny Levi".

I know Levi was upset at not being in 17 and I'm sure the so called "dummy spit" happened and his attempts to burrow over from dummy half upset some, well blown out of proportion but surely that is in the past. Discussions would have been held, what's required would have been clarified, surely he can start with a clean slate, I'm hoping he has a great season and is anticipating great success like most of us

Where did anyone say he wasn’t trying hard enough?

The narrative is that he didn’t want to have to fight for his position which is proven by the article I posted and him asking for a release.

Let’s not start rewriting history

The "narrative" on here, for weeks, is that Levi is having a sook and not trying.
Nothing is further from the truth.
He is busting his arse to advance his career, and if anything, he is trying too hard on the field and not being a "team" player.
Get with the programme.

I got one have 100% never said he hasn’t been trying and I’m pretty sure no one else has said this either

We’ve been saying he didn’t want to have to fight for his position

You’re changing the narrative because you know you’re wrong, admit it and move on

Well, the "narrative" coming through to me is that he once asked for a release and had a tanty, so that means even now, his attitude stinks and he isn't really giving it a good go, he is sulking and expecting his spot gifted to him.

Geez you guys really do lock in to one comment from a player, one incident and he is that forever.

Well obviously Brown thinks the same because he’s happy to let him go.

I wasn’t that displeased after the first episode, but when it was reported he would demand a release if we signed Isaac Luke that was it for me, and it seems for Brown and the club as well.

And yet he is still here. Funny how quick assumptions are made what a person or the clubs intentions are.

Perhaps the club wanted to send Levi a message, either choose to stay or leave, now is the time to decide to leave or decide to stay and earn your position.

On one hand it is argued the club does want Levi as they selected him, and said he still has a place here, and on the other apparently they don't want him as they gave him permission to leave if he wants to.

Toohey said the club is happy for him to go mate

He’s asked for a release once already and threatened to do the same a second time

If the club can find a replacement he’s gone mate plain and simple

Time will tell I guess.

If the club wanted a replacement so badly they should have got segy. You lot make it out Levi is the last person the club wants around yet they didn't sign segy, they gave up on him.

I really don't mind what happens either way. I think Levi has great potential, but if he isn't going to be good for us he is better off gone.

Levi will kill it this year if he stays fit. He’s still young. I don’t really have a problem with him threatening to leave, just means he is confident and hungry to play which is exactly what we want. Maybe he thinks his s%#^ don’t stink at training or something and this is where the attitude problem comes from.
