Official: Knights sign David Klemmer for 5 years

how can TPAs be tied in with the actual contract when the club signing the player is not aloud to have anything to do with the TPA arrangement?

Its simple really,

Say you get a salary of 450k but as a bonus to keep you with us, this place around the corner is willing to give you 200k to do promo work for them.
That then makes your total worth to that job 650k which is rather good.

The NRL can not guarantee this, though if its used as a bargaining tool to get that deal across the line? Which they're... then a player can use it as a tool to get out of the deal if the parties don't meet the agreement.

If klemmer had a legal avenue to get out of his contract he'd already be signed for us and wouldn't be asking the dogs for a release for personal reasons

Is it possible for us to sign Klemmer ($1m plus TPA) and taupau ($900k plus TPA) and stil have enough in our cap to fill out our roster with backup players?

We'd have to sign 3 guys on minimum wage - so probably 3 guys not good enough to play firstgrade - which wouldn't be ideal with 30 man squads.

in a players club contract is there any mention of TPAs? there shouldnt be considering the club cant deal with them yer?so if a tpa is not in the clubs contract for player how can the club be responsible and and be in breach of contract for tpas not being paid?
 
So Ramien, Sione, the Saifiti twins, Ross. May as well say “here ya go Dogs, here’s our 1-17 in exchange for Klemmer”. This is getting so out of hand it’s ridiculous hahahaha.

I highly doubt Klemmer stays, especially now that every media outlet and his dog (no pun intended) as well as both clubs have come out and said he’s unhappy and wants out. That’s a look no club wants to have. Sure they can keep him and force him to play out the final two years of his deal, but what benefit would that be to the Dogs? Won’t be playing with any hunger or passion that’s for sure. I’ll be extremely surprised if he isn’t running out for us, extremely. People are getting too carried away now.

The club gives the player the lead to the TPA, the TPA can't come from a sponsor or link to the club.

If a player is signed with s TPA agreement as part of the deal its linked to the contract but not binding for the NRL to make sure it is paid, the club should make sure its paid as its the club that gets the TPA for said player.
 
You mite remember Jimmy Maloney openly stating in a media conference that he's waiting for the club to sort out a TPA deal for him last year?

so your saying a tpa can be inked into a players club contract? that doesnt sound right to me, and if thats the case there would be no need to register it with nrl as it would be covered and signed off by the nrl when the club submits the players contract
 
The James Maloney deal at Penrith has been stalled in bizarre fashion.

Paul Kent revealed on NRL 360 the NRL is now scrutinising a third-party deal which is part of the contract, after Maloney accidentally let slip to media the nature of the sponsorship.

It means he could lose $200,000 on the contract and it puts the entire move in jeopardy.

“James Maloney actually got himself in trouble there ... he came out the other day and said he’s waiting on the club to organise a third-party deal to come through,” Kent said.

“It can’t be club-driven, it has to be player driven.

“Unforunately he’s let the cat out of the bag so the NRL is now looking at it.

“It’s a $200,000 Keno sponsorship, and I daresay the NRL is about to knock it back.

“That would make it very interesting to see what happens there.”
