REPORTS: Newcastle enter Segeyaro race

The Knights are setting their sights on recruiting a top class hooker.

Off-contract Cronulla Shark James Segeyaro seems to be in hot demand, with the Newcastle Knights now chasing the hooker, according to Tony Adams.

Newcastle recently had their sights set on New Zealand Warriors star Issac Luke, but given 31-year-old now requires a shoulder reconstruction, it seems the Knights have pulled back on their interest.

Segeyaro looks set to be leaving the shire in 2019, currently reported to be in-talks with the Bulldogs, but the Knights could provide the 27-year old with another opportunity.

The Knights seem to be the team to have the money Segeyaro might be after given they have gone cold on Luke.

Segeyaro could be the missing piece Newcastle are after to complete their spine structure, as they want a top class dummy half to give fullback Kalyn Ponga much needed early ball service.

Im not sure how reliable Zero tackle is.
Imo Segeyaro is a better option than Luke and should come cheaper.
But all 3 of them Luke, Segeyaro and Levi can be quote un-predictable.

Segeyaro could play for QLD next year if he gets a starting spot in my opinion. Would be a top signing for the Knights with Ponga and Watson lurking around him for his dummy half runs.

Would your boys ever have a crack at him again??

I love Jakey Granville ( he bought me a VB at the casino in Townsville last year :) ) but he seemed to drop off a bit last year.

Doubt it. Granville is a favourite of Green having been together for a solid 7-8 years now.

By all reports he is a top country lad. I’m good mates with high school mates of his and have been before he debuted with the Broncos and they have said since then what a top bloke he is.

Sadly his form has dropped since 2016 but has had no pressure on him due to Chudleigh breaking down every year.

Segeyaro would be a top buy for the Knights though.

Yes please! Would much rather a fit Segeyaro over a busted up Luke. It’d be brilliant to see him bounce off players trying to put on a big shot in the red and blue. :giggle:

I wish I could work out what sort of hooker we are after.
If you'd have asked me if Brown would be interested in Luke and Segeyaro i'd have said they would be the last guys he'd be interested in.

The hit he did on McKendry while early on in his Cowboys career was amazing.

If that sort of stuff don’t fire up you’re forward pack then they don’t belong in first grade.

You know the type he wants, Griffen! Until Levi can be a calm player that follows the plan he'll never be number 1

A team-focused, consistent 80-minute gun hooker would be at the top of any coaches wishlist. It's no coincidence that the greatest hookers are those who play out a full match every week

We have to have a backup specialist hooker for next year, where Segeyaro comes here and Levi plays from the bench or reserves, he would be a great signing.

Griffin may not return at all.

Is Levi going to spit the dummy and demand a release if this signing happens? Best of both worlds, neither are exactly 80 min guys and it's competition for a starting spot.

So Wests are ok with video of Corey and Seggy that's done the rounds among other things. I hope we sign him but seems the off field stuff can be ignored when it suits.

We were not 'off the pace this year' Beaumont. Sixteenth to eleventh and make the eight if Pearce remains on the paddock.

All we needed was some reasonable backups for injuries rather than Billy's love children Lamb and Cogger.
