Lachlan Fitzgibbon re-signs until the end of 2021

Here's another interesting article from the armpit of sporting journalism, Sporting News Australia. Doubt there is any truth to this.

He’s the best young forward to come out of Newcastle for many years - but I’m hearing Lachlan Fitzgibbon isn’t happy and wants out for next season.

The 24-year-old Fitzgibbon had a great year in 2018 and looks to have a massive future in the game.

But for some reason - probably a secret approach for a rival club - he is looking to get a release from the final year of his contract in 2019.

It leaves the Knights with the classic dilemma: do you keep a player who isn’t happy, or just cut him loose?

Fitzgibbon is all class; a power forward with the ability to break the line, and would be a massive loss for the club.

Knights officials are desperately trying to solve his problems and make him feel an integral part of the club again.

He's another player who could double his contract if he were free to negotiate.

If we don't spend all our cap this year it wouldn't hurt to sign him for the next 3 years and front load his contract by upping his 2019 contract.

Agreed, why do we have any player below acceptable payment that is auto 1sts when we are talking about paying $500k for a player that is going under the knife and might take 3-6 months recovery. Might not be true now but why risk losing them, especially a good local.

Personally I don't think Ross has dropped that much in form. He doesn't stand out as much anymore because we have more component first graders in the side. He is going to look even worse when we add Lee and ramien into the mix.

Ross is an energizer bunny, I think they just cleaned up the structure this year as we look to become a serious team. The one week where Ross said the coach gave him a license to roam & have a high work rate he killed it & ran like over 200 metres. So think he's still got it, just not allowed to be so loose anymore, happens often in the NRL now.

Debunked by Baz, case closed, no further need to talk about it.

Nathan Ryan basically said the same thing. Think there's no point of having this thread on anymore. Well I guess until there is talks about his contract extension.

Read that the club is looking to extend him before he goes out on the open market. I think the Mooney contract method has worked well in this case. Making him earn a new one. Happy to offer him three years this time around.

While there's no shortage of depth in the backrow stakes, Fitzy is probably a great start to 2019 off being a smokie for City vs Coun.......dammit

Felt pretty confident towards the end of 2017 predicting 2018 would be a big one for him. If he keeps building on this season 2019 should see him knocking on the selector's door.
