No idea how true this is I read it on a Knights supporters group on facebook

The Newcastle Knights are very interested and keen on signing Penrith Panthers forward Trent Merrin for season 2019 and beyond!.

They have him on their radar and the Penrith Panthers have no issue in releasing him as long as both clubs reach an agreement.

Not much of a rumour though. Pretty well-known we’re after some forwards. And of course no player would be released to another club without mutual agreement.

He'd be a good upgrade on Heino.
He's on reportadly 750k, would the Panthers pay part of his freight if they want him gone?
I hear they need to relieve some cap pressure to try and upgrade Cleary and Waqa Blake.

If the Bulldogs can pay for $150k for four years of Woods then I'm sure Penrith can pay $150k, us 600k of his salary for next year.

I like Merrin and we need middle forwards but my concern is how much we pay him. Did he sign a back ended deal around the time he was playing for NSW, Australia? If we are taking on that contract I'm not sure that he is still worth that value forwards like ese might be a lot better value.

$750,000 for that tired, worn out, mediocre prop?

He ain't even worth the minimum pay of $110,000 for mine. What we have is better though we do need a nasty prop or two.

Mooney has an incredible strike rate in picking up players who have something left to give despite looking finished.
Guerra was in not too much better form when we signed him.
I wouldn't pick Merrin as a guy to sign, but if Mooney thinks he is worth a go, i'll be optimistic about him, at least until I see how he goes for a month or so.

We need guys with aggression who can up in the opposition's faces, Merrin isn't really that guy but he's an upgrade on what we have.

I'm really holding out for Napa *fingers crossed*

If we look at what we have we definately need a couple of middle forwards, if not two big strong robust types then at least one plus a steady type better than what we have, for example Napa and Merrin, although I'm not a Merrin fan.

Definitely wouldnt say no to Merrin. Especially if we can get TPJ here!
8 Merrin
9 Levi
10 TPJ
11 Sione
12 Fitzy
13 Guerra
14 Glasby
15 D.Saifiti
16 Ese ese
17 Barnett
18 Buhrer/Griffin

He brings something we lack in the forwards with a little bit of flair with offloads and a late step at the line. Merrin plus any of the others would be incredible for our pack( TPJ, Napa, Klemmer (dreaming i know))

His form dropped when he moved to Penrith and consequently split up with his mrs. Maybe getting back to the coast (surfer I think) will get him back playing the use to.

Would be very happy with Merrin as a signing. His been quieter this year than previous years but his still only 27 so has plenty left in the tank and even this year his still averaging 108m and 26 tackles a game.
