Intrust Super Cup Round 16 Team of the Week

1. Scott Drinkwater (Easts Tigers)

After returning from a week away with the XXXX Queensland Residents side, Easts Tigers fullback was back to his best; scoring a try, setting up another, running for 115m and busting 15 tackles in a Hastings Deering Man of the Match Performance.

2. Michael Purcell (Ipswich Jets)

Just his second game back after a seven-week layoff with injury, and it was like the “Kangaroo Catcher” had never left, scoring a hat-trick and busting seven tackles in a dominant display from the Jets fullback.

3. Kotoni Staggs (Redcliffe Dolphins) – (c)

The rising star headed back to Redcliffe in Round 16 after spending three weeks playing for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL. The Dolphins centre picked up where he left off, scoring two tries, busting seven tackles, running for 112m and kicking seven goals.

4. Tom Opacic (Redcliffe Dolphins)

Opacic was another Broncos player who returned to the Intrust Super Cup in Round 16. The 100kg centre terrorised his opposition defence with his size and speed, running for 119m, scoring two tries, busting four tackles and setting up a try in what was a convincing win for the home side.

5. Gideon Gela-Mosby (Northern Pride)

The Northern Pride flyer continues to put on tries for his side in the Intrust Super Cup, scoring another double in Round 16. Gela-Mosby now takes his try scoring tally to seven tries in five games as he continues to push for a Cowboys recall.

6. Bryce Donovan (Redcliffe Dolphins)

Just his sixth Intrust Super Cup appearance, the young half continues to make a name for himself at the Redcliffe Dolphins with another dominant performance. Donovan scored two tries, ran for 73m, busted four tackles and had a hand in a number of tries in the Dolphins 50-18 win over Wynnum Manly.

7. Ase Boas (PNG Hunters)

The Hunters half played a key role in securing victory for the Hunters in front of a passionate PNG crowd, scoring two tries, busting four tackles and running for 126m from his nine carries.

8. Luke Page (Burleigh Bears)

The Burleigh Bears cult hero returned to Intrust Super Cup in Round 16 after a successful Pacific Test with the PNG Kumuls. Page lead the Bears pack from the front in the local derby against fellow Gold Coast feeder Tweed Heads, running for 172m from 15 carries in just 42 minutes.

9. Alex Bishop (Norths Devils)

The Norths Devils rake only played 33 minutes in Round 16, however they were a great 33 minutes, as Bishop scored a try with a quick tap from a penalty and set up a try for his lock forward with a short grubber kick, that featured in this week’s Top 5.

10. Will Bugden (Northern Pride)

A courageous performance from the 115kg front-rower, laying a platform for his halves with 172m from 13 carries, including 81 post-contact metres. The hulking front-rower also aimed up in defence with 26 tackles.

11. Nixon Putt (PNG Hunters)

The Hunters second rower was sensational for the Hunters in Round 16, scoring in the 70thminute to put the game out of reach for opposition Sunshine Coast Falcons. Putt also set up a try for his fullback with a barnstorming run in the 50th minute of the game. He also registered 159 running metres, including 56 post contact metres.

12. James Hill (CQ Capras)

The Capras second-rower is becoming a familiar face in the Team of the Week as he managed yet another huge effort in Round 16, scoring a try, busting nine tackles, running for 193m and making 39 tackles in an 80-minute performance.

13. Ben Shea (Ipswich Jets)

A solid performer in a losing side, the Ipswich Jets lock-forward rose to the occasion for his 150thIntrust Super Cup game, registering 203m from 19 carries, an offload and 21 tackles.

14. Billy Walters (Easts Tigers)

It was a huge game for Billy Walters last weekend as he starred with both his kicking and running game; scoring a try, running for 144m, with two line breaks, four tackle breaks, five goals and 160 kick metres. Walters scored a brilliant individual try off a quick tap which also featured in this week’s Top 5.

15. Tyronne Roberts-Davis (Burleigh Bears)

Tweed Heads struggled to contain Burleigh flyer Roberts-Davis in Round 16, as he scored two tries, busted four tackles and ran for 155m. Roberts-Davis now takes his try scoring tally for Season 2018 to 11 tries in 12 appearances.

16. Luke George (CQ Capras)

A makeshift winger in Round 16 after spending the majority of his 2018 season playing in the back-row; it was a great performance from George as he crossed for two tries and helped the Capras to a 20-6 victory over Mackay.

17. Jamil Hopoate (Redcliffe Dolphins)

The always dangerous Dolphins lock forward was at his damaging best, scoring a try, setting up another, running for 172m and busting six tackles in yet another solid performance.
