Round 6: Newcastle Knights vs Melbourne Storm

Didnt get to watch the game last night due to work. Reading the comments on here i thought we must have been really bad.
I just finished watching the game and thought we played pretty well. We started with great intent and aggression the Storm had made 20m before dropping it of course it was a penalty against us and instead of us having a full set 20m out the Storm score up the other end. Then there was another dropped ball which was a penalty against us. A couple of obvious forward passes that were not called. Ponga putting in down when we looked likely to score and melbourne go up the other end and score. Second half the ******** sin binning. Storm got two tries of a couple of lucky bounces.

We obviously have areas we can improve in but IMO we are not that far off. If the penaltys/ rub of the great/ bounce of the ball were even we would have really pushed the Storm and if it was in our favour as much as it went the Storms way we win.

Still a long way to go to we are a premiership threat but im still confident we can make the 8.

Not actually watching mate. At work. On a 15 minute break.

Highly doubt it. Who knows what’s going on behind the scenes but it’s not the Cowboys side we have seen under Green before. Somethings not right in my opinion.

I thought they would have a slow start... Thurston and Scott coming off serious injuries but they just look slow to me... everything in attack is a set play and teams seem to be able to defend them (besides the knights).

Even the broncos got a win today...

19 - 0 half time... hopefully a fight back in the second half.

I watched the game and thought Melbourne did a great job exploiting our weaknesses and got all the luck early on, which basically meant we were not going to win, but I was happy with the fightback and effort from the boys.
I fully expected all the negativity on here though.
It's like we are Canberra fans now - deliriously happy when we win, contemplating suicide when we lose.

Just not as stupid as most people on this board, we are not top 8 material and not even close but keep dreaming...

Anyone with a realistic opinion on here is negative and not a true fan...

Open your eyes! Not once have I said I'm not happy with our start, not once have I said we have not improved, we have but not to be good enough to play semi finals footy, you play finals footy when you can defend errors and penalties... we simply can not defend anything at the moment against a decent footy team...

Happy I'm not a cowboys or Parra fan in 2018, much prefer to be a Knights fan.

I don't give a **** how many points we win by, as long as we win and that didn't evel look like happeneing after 1 minute on Friday night. Buderus even predicited the first try and it came with ease like all the others did, we were NOT good and we did NOT play well... If you think we did, good for you!

Everyone has there opinion but to say were no chance of making the 8 is not a realistic view point at all. If you said i dont think we will make the 8 that is a different Story.

Most of the experts on the game either have us in the bettom of there 8 or just missing out on the 8. So to me that means we are a realistic chance of making the 8 in the experts opinions.
IMO we will make the 8 we have played 6 games in which we have won half and have lost to the 3 favourites to win the grandfinal which shows us were not up to that level yet. On our current form were a fringe top 8 team IMO and still think we have a lot of improvement.
What is really going to hurt us in origin time if pearce gets picked guerra is a chance and fitzy could be a smokey if he keeps up his form.
 
Personally i think we will get 10th or 11th but were still in the middle of a rebuild , we didn't get a lot of the players we were after that may have got us playing better such as Matt Scott , Bird and so on but imo were going ok we still need time to gel as a team .
I have to say anyone that thinks we should be playing anywhere near Easts , Melbourne , Cronulla at this early stage are kidding them selves and don't know anything about what it takes to get a team of new and young players to play as a team ..
This season was always about teaching the young guys what they need to know to play consistant good footy at the top level .
As far as I'm concerned a lot of people are expecting way to much from the team at this early stage .
 
I just noticed we are back in our rightful spot of the worst D in the nrl

After 6 games we have conceded 164pts.
So 27.3pts a game.
 
We're doing ok in the middle, not great, but better. But Stevie wonder can see all you need to do is spin the ball left to score points against the knights.

I'll have to do the numbers again but I think it's 28 tries conceded, 13 or 14 on the right edge

We’ve defended the middle well enough on the games we’ve won. Actually I think Manly wasn’t that good either from memory.
 
Whats a worry is that 2017 we averaged 27pts exactly over the yr.
Currently averaging 27.3pts after 6rds.
Now one can make a case that our D is no better going off that.

Im one of them tbh.
Our attack is much better but we are losing the middle and being torn a new one out wide.

Jacob was our best prop v the storm by a mile.

We need to win the middle.
Browny ffs start the twins with ese at lock.
If we win the ruck we win the game..... simple.
 
I always wonder why he won't start them for at least one game. Is he concerned they'll clock off early in d or if they'll just be lazy all round.
 
Tend to agree 88. As long they can show the aggression they did against the Broncos. Doesn't solve our issues out wide and those boys in the middle have gotta stop the offloads. If we started those 3 I reckon we'd have to bring King onto the bench cos otherwise only have the the 2 old fellas.
