Knights Off Contract

So with Yates about to re-sign, that leaves Elliot, Pete, Gagan & Amey left in limbo, probably in a situation of wait for us to see what's around & if we have a room left & you can't find a new home, we'll give you a run. Others from the second tier squad that train with first-grade Cronan, Brodie Jones, Robson & Bradie Smith I imagine will be kept on in the part time squad, with maybe a couple of them upgraded to full time.

Brodie Jones would be on a junior contract if he isn't in the top squad next year.
He played SG Ball and NSW under 18s last year.

Large variation to players signed for 2018 and those leaving, obviously we need more signings even if its our current players for example Amey, Pete, Elliott etc. Will have U/20 players coming up but inexperienced and in need of a season of adjustment.

There is no point buying reserve graders or ordinary players from other clubs.
We can breed any number of fair to decent players ourselves, and the current crop of young players are as good as any going around.
The only players we should buy are outstanding players in positions we find it hard to fill.
Our entire reserve grade squad should be guys in their early 20s who we think can continue to improve - not old hacks from other clubs who are on the market because their old clubs don't rate them.

I hope they get sione bulking all offseason. If his futures in the backrow a 5-10kg weight increase could see him a different player. An emphasis on tackle technique and adding weight in the offseason and see where his at. The blokes only 21 he still has development in him imo.

Would make him slower and even easier to belt, and at the moment when he gets hit, its cringeworthy.

I agree with what you say, my point was we should be considering signing some of those better performed players, those I mentioned, before someone else makes a bid, Elliott for example, titans.

EASBay17 that was done a couple of seasons ago when he was first moved to the backrow. At the moment he is a square peg in a round hole. The modern backrower is over two metres, and a strong physique of about 105-110kg, such as Gillett, Cordner, Hess, Cooper, De Belin, Edwards, Brown etc.

Sadly Sione does not have that body build, being a smaller, squatter Islander. With the forwards we have signed he is going to struggle getting a starting spot. I see his playing position as an outside back, if he can lose the weight he put on and do a lot of speed work. I believe he is an outstanding young man the support he has given fans who are seriously ill, but with his head knocks see no place for him in the forward pack.

I'm just as critical of Sione as the next man but I think he will flourish under a consistent pack (fingers crossed). He has a winning quality about him which I know Browny sees in him and I believe under a cohesive unit he'll be one of those players who is just part of the furniture. We all know he won't half-*** sh*t, I common thread and attitude which our club had reeked of.

The problem is he may not make a consistent pack. Who would we drop Buhrer, Guerra, Barnett, Fitzy? For mine he rates behind each of them.

My question is what's going to happen if he continues getting concussed? Is Brown just going to leave him there until he announces an early retirement? He's had a full pre-season plus training in between then to get the technique right but it keeps happening. I'd personally like to see him get his speed back and shift back to centre, him being on the wing would just look odd to me.

Speed back? He was slow mate, just had a power game which was great against u20s but has never really transferred to NRL.

Thinking about it what's killed Sione is not a couple of years in NSW cup IMO.

So we're hating Sione now? He's far more of an attacking threat than any of our current back rowers bar Fitzgibbon. I think he's done a pretty good job in the forwards considering he'd never played there before.

But I'd move him back to the centres because we're short there. The fact that Brown was considering someone as atrocious as Beale so obviously it's something he's concerned with.

If Sione was going back to the centres they wouldn't have gone after Beale. They will re-sign Pete if nothing better comes along.

Josh Morris for two years would be fantastic. He might have lost a touch of pace but he's still in the top handful of defensive centres in the game. Which would be handy seeing as we leaked almost 30 points a game this season.

I think the only one who has an agenda against Sione is Lord. I'm more worried about the fact that he spends more time having HIA's than he spends out on the field. Sure he's a good hole runner and powerful but he's not making many metres and his technique hasn't improved a great deal.

his still 6ft tall, if he added 5kg it would see him as a similiar size as john asiata. i dunno i dont know what we should do with him really. looking at our squad his probably not in our best 17 at this stage

He is 183cms or about 5'10" and has already gone that extra 5kg route and looks plump. I agree with what do we do with him? Blame Uncle Benny for all the BS that started with his so called World Cup selection when abvout nthe eight wingers in front of him were not available.

Hated? Love the bloke him and his brothers are among the nicest lads going around.

Doesn't change the fact his to small, slow, weak and lacks the footwork as well as ball playing skills to either be a backrower or a centre and am sick of for 2 years watching the team being rebuilt around him, when he doesn't make our best 17 next year.

Any other clubs his a gun junior that didn't grow enough and nicks off to play park footy.

Plenty of blokes out there that are 10cms to short and lack that extra strength and speed to transition to nrl.

We repeatedly here Billy saying his killed it in the juniors and been the best on field.

What are his highlights in NRL out of nearly a 100 nrl games can we name 5 were his been the best on field?

People saying lose his size to be fast again? When he ever been quick?

Aside from 2 good runs and 2 semi solid hits per game both which normally see him seeing stars what does he offer.

Laughable he would be selected in the backrow in front of Guerra, Barnett, Buhrer and Fitzgibbon.

Moga way better at Centre and Pete considerably better.

But hey lets keep on rebuilding to the side around boy wonder.

People are seriously saying after nearly a 100 nrl games we should have to teach him to tackle without knocking himself out? Honestly he is plod.
