King extends tenure

Newcastle Knights forward Josh King has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping the local junior at the Club until at least 2018.

King, who was signed for 2017, has played eight NRL matches after making his NRL debut in Round 7 this season.

“Josh is a good person with a great work ethic,” coach Nathan Brown said.

“Over the journey he will continue to develop into a player that other players want to play with.”

King was born in Maitland, played his junior football with the Singleton Greyhounds and has progressed through the Knights’ system.

“Josh is a good local talent and it is pleasing he is rewarded with a contract extension,” Brown added.

This weekend, the 21-year-old has been named at starting prop for the first time in his young career.

Just listened to the King interview.
He says he finishes tech at the end of this year, but has a year's prac to finish his apprenticeship.
He also said he wants to keep working because it takes his mind off football.
I think he has to at least go part time with the work and spend a lot more time on footy.
He'll only get one chance, and he has to take it seriously.

He may well have bulked, but what has happened to Bhana? He looked just an average size garden gnome yesterday.

Bhana did look like a midget in our pack and although I read that he is a tackling machine ...I cant really see where he will fit in .

Bhana is certainly not a first grader which is disappointing. The step up from reserves to first just doesn't agree with some players. He doesn't do much wrong as such but makes little impact and is way too small.

It's sad that Bhana isn't up to it.
He has the attitude and work ethic and team spirit you would like to see all our players have.
I think his one chance was to make a go of bench hooker, but he doesn't seem to have the skills needed.
He reminds me of Marvin Karawana - tries hard - does everything he can, but just not good enough.

He has a few mates in that regard amongst the group brownie has bought.
Other teams don't let players go if they have a bright future.
It's the basic flaw in the logic of us buying a ready made squad. All the players on the market are players other team are prepared to let go.
Having said that, a few of the guys Brown has bought don't look too bad. Pearsall, Pauli, Barnett and Freeman are all guys I want to see at the club again next year, and I'm warming to Tom Hughes as well, now that he is playing second row.

There's generally a reason players get to 23 or 24 and haven't found a full time gig.
Barnett and Pauli are 21 I think, more potential for improvement there.

Pauli will be a great prospect if we can shed a few more kgs off him and get him as fit as a fiddle. I'd actually like to see him become our starting prop.

Josh King pre-Round 20
8 games, 37 minutes per game, 7 runs for 55 metres, 22 tackles 1.4 missed

Josh King post-Round 20
4 games, 42 minutes per game, 11 runs for 111 metres, 24 tackles 1.5 missed

Still don't know what happened after the broncos game, but brown and king should share it with the whole squad and we'll win the comp.
