Offical: Manly Sign Uate for 2 years

John Morris
According to the Mole of Rugby League Week, Akuila Uate may have been shopped to a Japanese rugby team for 2017 and beyond.

I hope this is BS. He one of the senior players we need.
I spoke to Aku Saturday at the fan day and watched him (and Gagai) on Sunday night at Cbus Stadium. Both times he was distracted, disinterested and not at his best. Poor defensive reads and handling errors. We could do without him to be honest. Mamo or Ross could easily replace him considering his recfent and current form. Note: It doesn't help if Gaigai won't pass him the ball when he's unmarked, true, but when he does get it - he drops it anyway.

He is a Knights legend and will probably hold our try scoring record for a very long time, but Brown is not interested in tieing up our salary cap with 30 year olds on giant contracts.
I don't think we'll have anyone over age 25 or 26 by 2018, and then be looking to stick with the same squad for 5 years or so.

Wont that be great ...A full team of young , enthusiastic , Expierenced players that have been playing together for 3 yrs.... I'm drooling ...

At Huddersfield, Brown sacked the fan favourites and players who were grossly overpaid.

And Trent Hodkinson will be thirty by 2018.

Uate in my opinion acts the goose too much. If he's half the clown he is at training that he is when not, no wonder he has problems.

Id be devastated to see him go but he is taking up way to much cap space for what he offers these days.

Loved him a few years ago but bad this contract. Better score 30 tries this year or leave

so he's not wanted anymore then eh?
that's all well and good but is there another try scoring winger of his calibre ready to step up?

Didn't he score the most tries for us last year? Guy wasn't even in decent form and out scored the rest. For a winger that is ball starved, was injured and out of form, shows what the rest of the team is worth.

Yep your right, Not like he used to (18+ 3 years running) but he has still been our top try scorer in 2014 and 2015

Last year he also ranked highly in other key areas

In 2014 he ranked 1st in Line Breaks, 3rd in Tackle Breaks, Equal Top Try Scorer and Equal 6th in Metres but he only played 15 games

In 2013 he ranked 1st for Metres, 3rd in Line Breaks, 1st in Tackle Breaks and 2nd highest try scorer

To be balanced though he has ranked in the top 4 for errors in 2013, 2014 and 2015 but it's not as bad as people think and his error rate has dropped each year for the last 3 seasons

He averaged 1.2 errors a game in 2013, 1.06 errors a game in 2014 and 0.86 errors per game in 2015
