I've never been able to give negative rep to anyone... and my last two reps I've received have been grey. WTF is the go there?
 
I'd say it's grey because the person who give you the +rep doesn't have any rep power.

Because they haven't recieved enough themselves. I can't hand out negative either.

I hope it doesn't sound confusing Denno but as far as I can see, it's not a negative rep.

Coz the person who give it to you only had 0 meaning they have no rep power to give you points :p

Rep Power can be gained through post milestones or gaining positive rep.

Mods/Admins have power of 10 so that's one way you could bump it up.
 
What kind of milestones do we get to gain extra rep?

And how many rep points does one need to get the 2nd boxy thingy.

He is a mod and your a registered user. From what I can see he hasn't given any out nor do I think he ever will.

I think it's like per 100 posts maybe? I will look into abit more.

And I think it's over 100 rep points for a 2nd box thingy :razz:
