Woods is one of the biggest pillows in the league but even he was good once and initially earned his spot in the rep sides. McLean has never been a top 6-8 prop in the comp to get his Aussie jersey. I just don’t get how he was talked up as a must have in the NSW jersey when prop is probably our strongest position.

I’d take Boyd over all of the names mentioned in your post without a seconds thought.

Glasby? Firstly he ain’t a kid he is heading towards the last 3-5 years.

Secondly he was embarrassing on his debut and gifted NSW easy points. Luckily he is a Queenslander where forwards are slim pickings and they also remain fairly loyal to ones that get selected.

If he was from NSW he wouldn’t get in the C team and if he messed up like he did then he probably wouldn’t of been picked for that team again either.

Not a particularly inspiring signing to be honest. Away from the Melbourne system he’s just another average sized forward will a very limited skill set. Certainly not as good as Ese or the Saifiti’s and not much of an upgrade on King or Lillyman.

Yet, he walks straight in to the QLD pack... They're going to struggle big time.

But agreed he is an upgrade and after all that's what we are looking for, not the ideal but an upgrade

It depends what we’re paying him. 450k is overs. As long as we get another quality middle forward we should be ok.

If we paid 600k it’s definitely a poor signing. I doubt we paid that much though. Mooney and Brown are smarter than that.

I reckon about $400k which for a first grade prop isn't bad - he isn't more than that and I don't even see him as a starter, ideally Dan will kick on next year and we'll have Dan and Ese up front starting.

Glasby to join Knights in 2019

The nib Newcastle Knights are pleased to announce the signing of prop Tim Glasby on a three-year contract, commencing in 2019.

The 29-year-old, who has been a key part of the Melbourne Storm's front row rotation, enjoyed a standout 2017, helping Queensland win the Origin series and was part of the Storm side that claimed another premiership.

Since 2013, Glasby has recorded 94 NRL appearances.

Coach Nathan Brown maintains the 106kg prop will be a great addition to the Club and provide key leadership for the squad.

"He is with the leadership group in Melbourne now and will also provide valuable leadership here at the Knights," said Brown.

"His form is consistent in the small parts of the game and he's very efficient in both his defensive and attacking areas.

"Probably the best compliment we can give him is that teammate Cameron Smith pushes him to not only be in the Melbourne team, but also pushes him to be in the Queensland team and you probably can't get any bigger endorsement than that from the Australian captain and one of our games greatest ever players.

"Tim being an Origin player and grand final winner is important for our squad, with his quality and experience set to add a lot to our forward pack."

Mooney has done very well with recruiting.
Only 1 real dud so far (Moga), and several like Ponga, Eseese and Griffin who have been much better than expected.

This doesn't look like a good signing, but Mooney has earned the benefit of the doubt on this one. Maybe he knows something we don't.

Leave the speculation of contract payments to the experts, suddenly someone is a bad buy because someone says "heard its $600k" even if it's true let's wait to hear confirmation of amount and if the player earns his fee.

He said that was a guess only.

Let's hope this is works out like Ese'ese and not like Lillyman.
