Mbye on back-ended deal for a start, 600k/600k/900k/900k. The real pain kicks in next year.

It's Dessie's fault with all the back ended bull, didn't he stuff Manly up too doing the same thing? No doubt he can coach & probably still has something to offer today, but there's his biggest strategy right there. Try to gather a group of good players together on the cheap & win a premiership before their big money contracts start setting in & can't be afforded anymore.

You can't blame it all on Dessie, it was well known what he did at Manly so the Dogs shouldn't have been so stupid to let him do it again. Dib and Castle both got the bullet because of it as well.

What I can't understand is that even though they knew how much salary cap trouble they were in they went and splurged crazy money on Foran & Woods, they even went after Tedesco !!!!! Surely if they knew how much trouble they were in you'd try and buy cheap players not top end guys on inflated deals???

That's why the three emigos ( Des, Dib & Castle ) got the punt.

Also the NRL were negligent in allowing them to make these deals knowing what a mess they'll be in for 2019 & 2020

I hope they pick up three spoons like we had to

Would love Klemmer, big fan, but he’s not worth $1M. Not even close. We only ponied up $800K for Pearcey didn’t we? Klemmer isn’t out-earning him here.

Well it's the temptation. A lot of people when given the choice, would pick a premiership if it meant a few years of hardship afterwards if they're being honest with themselves. And when you have a coach of Des' standing, coming straight off a premiership with Manly, you have all the confidence in the world he can do it & certainly aren't gonna stop him doing what he thinks he needs to win one.

There's no set worth anyway, main part of what a player is worth is how much said club needs a player, we desperately need aggressive pack leader with mongrel, he'd be worth $500k at the storm or Cowboys but easily $800k to us.

In Manly's case they got that premiership in 2011 and nearly got another in 2013, but for Dogs' fans although they got two Grand finals that won't help keep them warm at night when they're languishing down the ladder like we did.

I think you're right about the reasoning of how it went down but they really shouldn't have made things worse by going all out to get Foran and Woods, their premiership window was gone they should have tried to soften the blow for 2018, 2019 & 2020 by being wiser with their money.

I can understand trying to keep their squad together but they're in big trouble now
