Newcastle Knights Jersey Flegg coach Scott Dureau is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

The 32-year-old had surgery late last year to remove a tumor which has spread through his body.

“I had surgery in 2014 to remove a brain tumor and have been going for regular scans ever since,” Dureau explained.

“In November 2018, I saw (surgeon) Charlie Teo for a routine check-up and it was discovered that the tumor had returned.

“I had surgery and was given the all clear but unfortunately, it has spread to my liver which is why I’m having chemotherapy at the moment.”

Knights Chief Executive Officer, Philip Gardner, said Dureau and his family have the full support of the Club behind him.

“Scott has been courageous throughout this process,” Mr Gardner said.

“He was a courageous player on the field and has displayed those same qualities away from it.

“We will support him and his family as best we can.”

Elite Pathways Development Coach for the Knights, Dureau has been inundated with support, from the players to the staff, he is grateful for the love he and his family continue to receive.

“Phil Gardner has given me and my family massive support,” Dureau said.

“Nathan Brown and Dean Noonan have also been unbelievable.

“The Club has backed me all the way through this and kept in constant contact with myself and family to help us through this pretty tough time.”

Rough news, keep on fighting Scottie!

Jeez that sucks.
He is the nicest young bloke to ever play for the Knights I think.

Just wanted to bring Scott Dureau's fight against cancer to the top of the list and to remind everyone there's a couple of ways we can play even a small part in his recovery.

We can show our support at the ground:

Or through the Men of League Foundation, who are organising a fundraiser to assist him and his family:

https://menofleague.com/

I'll be donating a few items from my memorabilia collection for them to auction off, I'll forward details of the event once I know more for anyone who's interested.

Once again, best wishes to Scott and his family for his speedy recovery.

Such terrible news, I hope he’s able to make a recovery. Thoughts are definitely with Scotty.

Breaks my heart that he has to go through this.
I hope this interview is help with fundraising for him and his family - otherwise it feels like he is being put through un necessary angst.

I went to school with Scotty this breaks my heart one of the best blokes you’ll meet I shared plenty of schooners with him at Fanny’s

I saw the same story on the ABC this morning - It was much better presented I thought - gave a real feel of who he is and showed him at work and with his family. Showed him going through footage with Pheonix Crossland and laying down the law to the Flegg squad before training.

Very touching. So sad with the family being so young too. I was actually flicking through some photos last night and came across the Manly vs Knights game at Central Coast in 07. Never knew it was Scotty’s debut until he mentioned it in the clip. Everything crossed for that tough bugger to pull through.

I went to that game.
Scotty had a shocker - could have been his first and last.
