I’m not excusing it but it all can’t be fully blamed on him either

    Sorry but it can,
Was his inside man meant to run around him to make the tackle?
He literally ran 3m towards the ruck as the bunnies shifted the play wide, he jammed in and we ended up with 3 players within 1 metre of eachother while a 10m hole was made for the bunnies.
    Purely poor read from him.
Id excuse it if it was at the 70 minute and a once off thing but that happens 2-5 times a game.
Yes he played well for the most part, though our TEAM was chasing from the second minute of the game.

The word "critic" is exactly that a person that is critical about whatever they are commenting on, "credit" is something given to someone or thing that has performed or done well. Unfortunately some critics use that mode to justify giving some credit as in rubbish someone to make the other seem so much better.
If Sione got players award why can't we just say well done after all it is your peers making the choice

He came out of the line that time because it was 4-2 his inside man hadn’t slid across and the whole team was jammed in! Just so everyone knows who was named players player this week?

Maybe playing great for 65 minutes is good enough to earn you players pick

Seems like Sione runs sideways about 3m to take the block runner and leave a 10m hole to me.

1 pass off the dummy half there's 6 on 3. Been happening for 3-4 years.

Pause it at 6 seconds Reynolds at the line about to pass out to Johnson, 7v7 a miss read from our right Edge jams in as Souths shift wide and Johnson runs 60m untouched 90 seconds into the game.
You can see Guerra Fits pushing off their left to slide right, Watson Flat footed and Sione about 4m outside him, 4 seconds later Guerra fits watson Sione take nobody and a 10m hole is opened.
Sorry but Sione made the wrong call whiched stopped the inside sliding

Who makes the tackle on Sutton if the ball goes short? The defence was compressed as **** and poor decisions were made all the way from the middle out. Sione didn't make the right decision, but the damage was well done by the time it got there. To blame that try solely on him is dumb, and only someone who was pushing an agenda would read it that way. You don't get half a field of space from one player making a poor read.

To frame it another way, if Sione had managed to shut the play down from the position he was put in - it would have been quite a stellar defensive play. If he stays out wide there, it's still 3 on 2 with literally miles of space and a simple catch and pass to the try line... assuming they don't just use the 10m gap that would have been inside him instead of outside him to put Sutton in the clear.

What's even sadder is that everyone is sitting around discussing this single play that cost us a single try trying to figure out if he had a good game or not, when there was so much right about his game too. Instead of celebrating his improvement, we're nitpicking a single play that ultimately did not cost us the game. Opposing teams are going to score tries, and oftentimes it's going to come off defensive mistakes. Sometimes it even happens out wide where centres defend.

You've changed the topic of the debate. It's not about this play. I'm saying that if you bag someone relentlessly to have an ounce of credibility with me you need to give credit where it's due. He wasn't perfect and isn't ever likely to be but he had a good game last Friday night. Well at least his 16 team mates thought he did.

Very obvious they targeted Sione and perfectly isolated him as they and the rest of the NRL knows that his a pathetic defender, hence his 3-5 bad defensive errors per game.

But hey after costing us the game he was okay for the rest of it.

Got potential as well, you know like Bennett said right?

I think its a bit of a non issue with Sione , We don't have anyone to replace him with so he will most likely just stay there all season...
Next season (if he is re-signed ) might be a bit different though with Ramien coming here and a fit Moga or another centre brought in he may struggle for a spot then ...You never know though by next season he may have his defence up to scratch and keep his spot it is possible .
I read something somewhere the other day that said the Knights still wanted Sione to go back in the forwards ...

Because that is the only position he should be playing at. But Knights were a bit hamstrung with his concussion issues and had to adjust because of it. Next year he won't be in the centres!

Well with Guerra , Fitzy ,Barnett and Yates in the back row imo he wont get much time there and especially if Levi comes on for Griffin who will most likely then go to lock ...

Topic is Sione can't defend. Now he also costs tries in attack (on top of never creating anything in attack.) People going off over 65 okay minutes is laughable.

Said it a 1000 times thankgod we are not resigning him.

Most weeks I can't believe Sione's still playing, A) The fact he took months to recover should be enough to have anyone retire. B) His 1 bad headknock away from another round of lawsuits for the club.
