Interesting. I'm not sure why we are still bothering with Ford especially now we have Jenko back. Marty Paulson at halfback again ? Biggest wtf ever. Joel Brown to hooker is a good move though.

Stig should be halfback, Paulson to fullback, Ford to soccer or something where he doesn't need hands.

Oh lol, I was wondering what you were trying to say, could be worth looking into, particularly if he becomes famous. xD

Young guns set to fire

April 17, 2008

MATHEW Thompson is the man behind the microphone calling all the Toyota Cup action on Fox Sports. This weekend, the live and exclusive coverage continues, and Mathew takes a look at the form of the teams and the young guns to watch heading into the games

DRAGONS V BULLDOGS

This is a clash between 4th and 5th on the Toyota Cup table, and definitely two of the competitions genuine contenders.

The Dragons will enter this match buoyed by a stirring comeback win over North Queensland last weekend. They trailed 18-4, only to win the match at the death 20-18.

St George Illawarra looked a much more cohesive unit last time out, and lock Matt Mundine looks in terrific form after virtually winning the match for his team with brilliant ball playing late in the game.

Centre Dean Whare fulfilled some of his much spoken about potential by scoring a hat-trick, and prop Trent Merrin looks like an NRL player in the making.

The Bulldogs will be disappointed to have let a win slip from their grasp, managing only to draw 26-all with the Warriors in Auckland.

The clash of the respective front-rows is a mouth watering prospect, with the giant John Kite and the talented Liam Roach to start up front for the Dogs.

If they can get on top of the Dragons pack, expect crafty halfback Ben Barba to shine again as he has throughout the season.

I am expecting a cracking game between two very talented teams.

ROOSTERS V KNIGHTS

I am not sure what to make of this Roosters side, who after starting the season in such impressive fashion, have been hammered in their last two matches. The Bulldogs touched them up 38-10 two weeks ago, before the Panthers stepped up to the plate with a 48-6 landslide.

Coach Adrian Lam has made some changes, and will be desperate for a better defensive effort.

The Roosters giant starting prop, Stanley Waqa, was impressive when he came off the bench against the Melbourne Storm earlier in the season, and has been elevated to the starting side to inject some starch into the pack.

Newcastle have won just once this season, but have come out on the wrong side of some very close matches. Last weeks 26-20 loss to Brisbane is an example of that, and they could easily have beaten the Warriors in Auckland the week before, when they mounted a spirited fight back, only to go down 30-18.

Unless the Roosters improve, the consistent Knights team could be looking at win number two for 2008.
FoxS

Happy to eat a lot of crow this week.
Just watched the boys go around on foxtel, and they put together a great second half in particular.
Final score 34-6 i think - and that with 3 kickers used because they were kicking bad.
Ford had a great game - Paulson swappped around with Stig during the game - Stig was fantastic running, passing and feeding the scrum, but Paulson did most of the kicking and was pretty good.
The big surprize was big Mitch Garbutt, who was obviously told he was allowed to offload, so he came off the bench, had 20 odd powerful runs and offloaded on about 10 of them.
Tovo had some good runs once Gallan and Garbutt had softened them up.
Joel Edwards was replaced on the bench by Schirnack, and Schirnack and Dobbo made a lot of hard yards.
Basically our forwards smashed them and our backs cut them to pieces.
Hard to name a bad player - but my best were Garbutt, Stig and Ford with everyone else not for behind.
Turns out this Osborne guy at number 17 is a junior Kiwi hooker who has been with the club 10 days. He is a chunky kid who gets the ball out well, but looks like he needs a lot of work on fitness.
