Just please, don't pick King. The guy is a spectator most of the time walking around letting others take the hitups. Against Panthers he had more minutes than the rest of the bench yet was outperformed by all of them.

I thought Buhrer was horrid when he came on.

I had another look at the game and off the ball he did quite a bit. He made barely any metres out of trouble which sucks but if you look at everything else it's good. Defensively the whole team stood up. I actually think his role of linking set plays helped us out too. 28 tackles isn't too bad either coming off the bench in 35 minutes.

Someone must be telling him focus on other aspects instead of running because it's hard to believe someone chooses to run so little. A good game isn't just blindly looking at running metres and going 'bad game' but I'm sure most Knights couldn't give a rats, which is fair lol. I'm stretching my head every week when I catch those metres.

Looks like Ramien may be on the sidelines for this game so at least he won't carve us up all afternoon like he has been!

I thought he did well  made some great tackles, took some good runs from dummy half and ran after the play in D to sure up our line.

I’ll have to rewatch. I remember seeing a shirt grab missed tackle and a couple ordinary runs from dummy half.

Eh? His running from dummy half was the most effective that I’ve seen from him in his time here. He was solid defensively as per usual as well.

If Watson does come back then Meaney out and assume Heighinton will be back so King, Yates or Buhrer, probably Yates.

He had 5 runs for 41m and got us a penalty when we were under the pump
Had two great 1 on 1 tackles one on Kikau the other on Cleary both inside our 20m zone right after that set he got us that penalty to get us out of trouble

King is usually running for over 100 metres and often over 150 metres in reserves, so it's clear he has been given the role of defending in 1sts. Felise has clearly been given the opposite role - his numbers in reserves say he runs for up to 200 metres in some games, but makes far less tackles than you'd expect.

Brown will likely go an unchanged team after a win like that, so other than essential change if Watson returns I think it will be same squad, and fair enough.

Surely tempted to play same thing, Meaney at fullback, Ponga at 5/8 and Watson returning on the bench. Move Buhrer to reserves.

Watson can't have done much training if he had to rest a groin injury.
It doesn't make sense that Ponga is at 5/8 because he hasn't done much training due to injury, and Watson goes to fullback and he has done even less training.
Heighington is supposed to be playing against his old club.
Yates has been told he is getting a chance to earn a contract, so I suppose he has to be in.

My thought was same team except Watson if in Meaney out and Heighinton in so Buhrer, Yates or King out, tending towards Buhrer out.

‘If I have to play there again, I’m more than happy to’

    Newcastle Knights
    Mon 20 Aug 2018, 11:51 AM

Kalyn Ponga is willing to wear the No.6 this weekend if Nathan Brown asks him to do so.

After successfully partnering Mitchell Pearce in the halves against Penrith last week, the likely return of Connor Watson from injury could see another change to the spine.

While Nick Meaney played fullback over the weekend, Sunday's match with Cronulla could see Watson suit-up in the No.1 should Brown look to keep Ponga and Pearce side by side.

It's a role Ponga is willing to continue playing should his coach view it as the best fit for the team.

"I felt like eventually or sooner or later he (Brown) was going to put me there," Ponga told Sunday Night with Matty Johns of his move to five-eighth.

"Whether it was because I wanted to or what was best for the team but I didn't mind it.

"It was alright. They (the opposition) didn't really get at me too much which meant I didn't have to make too many tackles.

"The boys around me made it easier for me. If I have to play there again, I'm more than happy to."

Playing in his first full season of first grade, Ponga has taken the NRL by storm.

After spending the entire year at fullback for the nib Newcastle Knights, Ponga moved to the halves last week in a shift which was made to limit his running.

Having battled with a hamstring and ankle issue over the past two months, Ponga defended in the line against the Panthers but as pleased with how he handled the added defensive load.

"I know the backrower in front of me has been told to do a bit of a job on me," he said.

"In the game (against Penrith) I thought we worked around it and nullified that.

"It's kind of good if they're worrying about me., They've got 12 other blokes to worry about as well.

"We've got pretty smart footy heads there too.

"We've had our hard games and I've been hit a few times but I'm still enjoying it (and) still learning."

The injury report says Watson, Lillyman and Heighington available probably.

I can't decide if I want Saulo to get another game of firstgrade or to drop back to train with the under 20s for their finals series.

Yeah I’d bring Heighington in for Saulo. He’s had a taste and held his own but we should give the Flegg side every chance to go all the way and send him back.
