I don't watch a great deal of reserves so can't comment on what Fitz has been like there, but when he first came into grade he looked completely out of his depth, more so than most juniors that come through. To see where he is now from those first games is quite amazing

I watched him for a couple of seasons and he struck me as a good reserve grader that lacked that little something that was going to cost him, every time he played up a grade he looked lost, overawed, then last 3-4 weeks he changed, settled, someone has been in his ear, he is not a regular first grader but getting to it, very good back up for what will be a very strong pack next year

One of the things I like about next year is our depth. Based on the last few weeks, guys like Fitzgibbon & King have been playing like first-graders. They could continue to do that for the rest of the year & will probably end up in reserve grade come 2018. If they keep playing like they are, everytime they're called upon we won't have a massive drop in standard. Depending on who we sign, even guys like Lamb & Jaifiti might end up in reserves. Add the likes of Chanel, Phythian, Elliot, Yates, Stone & Cogger & there's some capable guys in there that will always do a job when called on.

We've had NSW Cup guys playing firsts for 2 years. Will be nice to have genuine first graders in Cup

We got 2 players in the NRL.com Team of the week

    3. Dane Gagai (Knights)

With his time at the Knights quickly drawing to an end Gagai gave the Newcastle faithful something to remember him by with another starring performance against the Warriors in which he ran for 142m and had an incredible 11 tackle busts.

    17. Mitch Barnett (Knights)

In the space of 10 minutes had doubled his career try-scoring tally to four and set his side on the way to a convincing win over the Warriors. Made 101 metres and 37 tackles with five tackle busts in a typically hard-working display.
