Elbow to the jaw for sure - whether it was intentional or careless is the only question.
Kade Snowden broke someones jaw and did a massive suspension for exactly the same thing.

For sure there was no malice, no one goes out intending to do that, but it did look like a raised arm to me.

Yep against Cowboys, difference was he was a defender, the ball carrier always gets away with it like JWH taking out bedsy in the first final a couple of years ago which I believe was intentional.

Raised elbow used to be referred to as a reserve grade fend.

Yeah we were right in the game up until then, Kade did actually get a few weeks against Penrith for sussposedly lifting his knees when running with the ball even though it looked like the defenders fault, and it was only after Ivan cleary blew up in the press conference saying his player had a broken jaw over the incident yet he played the following week.

Ferguson has a habit of leading with his forarm, he collected chambers in a nearly identical incident in origin, weather its illegal or not id say its not

    Not only Ferguson.

JWH got Levi twice with the Bedsy forearm. Once immediately before Chanel copped it, and the final tackle of the game.

So if a defender is going in for a tackle and the ball runner drops suddenly causing the defender to make contact with the head it's a penalty. Don't matter that the tackled player was falling it was still head contact therefore a penalty. BUT an attacking player can raise an elbow instead of a more traditional fend, contact the head knocking the defender senseless but because we give him the benefit of the doubt and say it wasn't intentional it's play on. Great example of hypocrisy within the rules. Chanel's mellon was still on his neck you can't smash it with your elbow. Penalty to us every time if I'm reffing.

If chanel jumps straight up though its a non incident, do you still penalise? You see forarms raised in every game of every weekend its a natural self defence mechanism, a crack down on it would open up a can of worms and another avenue for ref inconsistancy.

You either stamp out contact with the head or you don't. Start penalizing cocked elbows and see how soon they stop. There's been countless examples of contact with the noggin in defense that wouldn't bruise a grape still get penalized. Touch wood Chanel's ok but if he end's up like McManus as a result of that last night someone would be paying for it.

Well Asolioli or however you spell it just hit Billy Slater with a high swinging arm aimed at the head well after Slater passed the ball and has knocked him into the middle of next week and stretchered off.

What do you think happened? On report Cecchin you weak animal. The Raiders still have seventeen to the Storm sixteen. Worth six weeks minimum.

raising your forarm is away of protecting yourself and ball from contact though. If you watch any games this weekend take note of how many arms are raised just before contact, to try and stop and police it is not possible. Maybe defenders should stop trying to make first contact across the shoulders.

If you haven't seen it EASBay nothing like protecting himself. The arm was swubng directly at Slater's head
