    Rookie Review: Sam Stone

    Thu 5th October, 11:03AM

Sam Stone was the Club’s youngest rookie of 2017, having just turned 20 at the conclusion of the season.

The rangy back rower played 16 NRL matches and his impressive form saw him selected for the Junior Kangaroos.

Like Luke Yates, his big pre-season saw him selected in Round 1, and the local junior went on to play five consecutive matches while still being eligible for the NYC competition.

A naturally sound defender, Stone is still capable of putting on plenty of size.

He will be aiming to do that in the 2018 pre-season, as competition for back row positions heats up with the arrival of Aidan Guerra.

    STATS

    . 16 games
    . 2 tries
    . 37 metres per game
    . 22 tackles per game
. 95 per cent tackle accuracy

Sam wasn't physically ready for firstgrade, but skills wise, he is years ahead of most of our squad.
If he bulks up and gets physically strong enough, he will be really hard to keep out of the side.
He already has the best vision of any of our forwards, the best passing game of any of our forwards etc.

He didn't disgrace himself but you can tell his body has a long way to develop, will be an interesting 48 months watching him develop. Lets hope no one pinches him.

I think of all our backrow forwards he has the most potential, now up to him and coaching staff to achieve it, could take anything from 1-4 years.
Due to age and body got burnt out part way through this season, see him in reserves most of 2018 then anything is possible.
