    Knights release Tyler Randell

    Tue 22nd August, 10:37AM

The nib Newcastle Knights have granted utility Tyler Randell’s request for an immediate release.

Randell is a local junior, who played from Harold Matts in 2007 through to making his NRL debut in 2014. The 24-year-old has since played 44 NRL games.

It was a difficult decision for the Club to make at this stage of the season, however the Club accepts it is in Randell’s best interest.

“This is an opportunity that provides security for Tyler and his family long-term,” CEO Matt Gidley said.

“Tyler was a popular member of the team and he made a great contribution on and off the field over many years.

“We thank Tyler and wish he and his family all the best for the future.”

Randell will take up an immediate opportunity with another Club.

“The Knights is all I have known and it has been a tough decision to leave,” Randell said.

“I have loved playing here and I will definitely miss everyone at the Club, including the fans.”

The only thing he was offered was no game time.

    Farewell Tyler Randell

    Fri 15th September, 02:15PM

Today the Club farewells Tyler Randell, who was with the nib Newcastle Knights since 2007.

As a local junior, Randell played in the Knights Harold Matts side and worked his way through the ranks to make his NRL debut with the Club in 2014.

The hard-working and versatile utility, who notched up 44 NRL games for the Knights, made his first NRL appearance for 2017 in Round 10 against the Canberra Raiders and was part of the Knights second win for the season.

The 25-year-old went on to play four more NRL matches for the season with the rest of his time spent in Reserve Grade where he averaged 29 tackles per game.

Randell has now moved to England on a two-year deal with English Super League outfit Wakefield Trinity.

Nathan Ross said he was privileged to have played with Tyler during his time at the Club.

“Tyler was always one of the fittest and hardest working players you’d come across in the squad,” he said.

“Once he gets a goal, he really goes for it and I think that’s awesome.

“Tyler is a very softly spoken family man off the field.”
