    TITANS LOOK FOR BACKLINE OPTIONS

The Titans are considering making a play for Newcastle back Brendan Elliot.

The Titans have six spots remaining in their top 30 with three spots still vacant in the outside backs.

Elliott, 23, has not been offered a new deal by the Knights but has plenty to offer.

A centre, winger who can also play fullback, Elliott has almost 40 games of experience in the top grade to his name.

Having debuted for the Roosters in 2014, Elliot joined the Knights in 2016.

A Queensland product, Elliot went to school on the Gold Coast where he played rugby before he was scouted by the Roosters and moved to Sydney.

I like him under the high ball and he has speed to burn. He will get a lot of game time up there with first, their backs are always injured.

I think his great and a better option then Sio and Ross(take away his post try celebrations and Elliots a 100 times better defender, and stronger in attack, faster as well, only thing Ross has over him is foot work and a quirky personality.)

Matty , I am with you , he has proven to be more than capable in D or Attack and makes few errors a solid performer while not flashy.

Probably not confident to make the big plays yet as even though he has around 40 games he is often a "Bit Player " who doesn't command too much authority on the field.

Elliott isn't the type of player you get into a bidding war over.

We should offer Elliot the 250k he is worth, and if he gets a better offer, let him go.
Tom Hughes will be just as good after a firstgrade off season, and I suspect he is getting 100k or whatever the minimum is now.

Nathan Ross was run down last week pretty comfortably. Elliott at fullback would have scored as he has speed to burn. After Phythian's tragic start, Elliott showed more than anyone else at fullback and is the reason the reggies are in the playoffs.

100% correct but given his improvement, age and obvious effort surely we can make an offer. Probably better off at The Gold Coast but still offer the bloke 2 bob and a sand shoe and see what happens.

I'd be playing Elliott over Sio full stop.

For the chicken feed we would be offering Elliott he is worth keeping.

More the reason Browny should have given him time off until pre-season on November 1.

Dumb playing injured with not a thing to prove or gain.

Sio is slightly better than Elliot. Ross is much better. Elliot is safe under the high ball and quick if put through a gap. He has no strength and is a poor defender. Ross is superior in every aspect bar speed.

Ross allowed enthusiasm to outride common sense, should have rested, if he failed to score because of the bad back then what did it cost, possible win. Elliott should be offered and would like to see him stay.
As for fullback, has been a problem position all year with 4-5 tried and none standing out, hope we go better next year in that position.

The only speed that really counts 90% of the time in RL is speed over 30 metres, and I'd back Ross over anyone we have except maybe Gagai over 30 metres - actually, Meaney would be quicker too.

Completely disagree Elliot has broke plenty of tackles and manhandled plenty of defenders. Everyone just loves Ross because his a character I'd take Elliot any day.

Ross's fantastic finishes are nothing less than I'd expect for any other NRL quality winger in 2017.

Saying Ross is a superior defender is one of the most rubbish calls ever.

    Absolutely agree.

The sight of a team mate breaking through the line and into clear space should't be seen as a sign to stand back and watch. There's no reason for lazy support players not capitalizing from either a pass or quick play the ball against retreating defenders.

You can't teach players to be naturally quicker, but you can teach them to back up

I was thinking half that but I reckon $200k would be slightly overs and good value for us for a bloke that can comfortably play 1-5 and fit right into the team.

But your probably right Billy, no doubt some of those that are coming through can do a similar job for half the pay packet.
