500k buys you an average first grader under a $10m cap

The salary cap is $9.4M and you need to fill a squad of 30 with that number. $9.4M divided be 30 players is $313K per player. Obviously, end of the squad guys won’t be on that much, but top of the squad guys will easily be $700-$800K+ and there will be a few of them, which gives you less to throw towards “average first graders”.

$500K is not an average first grader. That buys you a good player which granted, Ah Mau is, but I think that’s on the higher end for him – personally.

Everyone was under the assumption we paid overs for Ese’ese to steal him from Broncos, who was regarded one of the better young front rowers in the game. His contract was reportedly for $467K per season. If $500K gets you an average first grader, that either means young Ese’ese with potential is below average OR we got him for unders – which isn’t the case. We had to pay overs to get him here with the state our club was at, being unable to win games or recruit players.

Also, Latrell Mitchell, a 20 year old strike centre with all-world potential just re-signed for $600K per season. If that’s what $600K can buy you, $500K should buy you more than a good (not elite) 28 year old prop who’s peaked out.

But hey, that’s just my thoughts...

And the 9.4 mil has 500k taken out for RLPA and a few other things, so the cap is only 8.9mil which slots know all about.
Also the total squad is 34 players.
So that makes it a 260k average.

Yeah that's right, decent player, make an offer but don't go all out. Being 29 next year, there's a chance he might have peaked after a slow start to his career & won't be able to keep it up for much longer. There's also a chance he's a slow burner who will keep getting better with age but it's not a sure thing. More worthwhile risk to give that kind of money to a young guy who looks like he could be anything in a few years.

He was decent last year without being spectacular, every time I see a prop be a beast in contract year, I can't help but think of the legendry Josh "Spongecake" Perry. Every 4th year would be a superstar lmfao.

Leeson had a good year last year too, He has improved greatly in the last 3 years

From memory he averaged about 120m a game last year and about the same or maybe a bit less in 2016

Not the most inspiring signing ( if we get him ) I feel we enough ‘decent props’ at the club we really need a rep quality one.

Would be a solid signing but unless the twins can take their game to the next level we will end up with 6 props all around the same level
