He is a reserve grade standard half, but he is the style of player we need if Pearce is out.
He is a good playmaker and kicker in attack - we just have to hide him in defence and just have him doing 5th play options in attack, and we might be able to win a game or two without Pearce.

Good signing. Agreed he is mainly a depth signing, but it gives us the option of Pearce/Lino in the halves with Ponga at 1 and Watson to hooker if we end up light on with dummy halves

Brown will try him out at hooker, because Brown can't help himself - everyone gets a go at hooker.

Good depth wonder if it's the last of the Mooney bargain signings we'll see, hopefully his rubbed off on Brown.

Awesome signing! Lino was outstanding filling in for the Warriors this year at 6 or 7. They didn't miss a beat in the games he played without Johnson, I was especially impressed with his running game. Doesn't seem scared to take the line on at all.

And a 2 year deal seems about right. Definite upgrade over Cogger and Lamb this year. I've got a mate who's a huge Warriors fan, he's devastated. That says it all.

Am warming to Lino, possibly because not seeing much else and he will give us depth in 6, 7 & hopefully 9 and apparently can kick

If he can play 80 minutes, tackles well and offers reliable service from the ruck maybe he'll force his way into that role.
Tackling technique can be improved with coaching, as can endurance.

I'm pretty stoked with this signing

Funny how the narrative is that Brown uses a lot of hookers and not that almost none of our hookers have played well enough to earn consistent first grade minutes. Slade didn't seem to have any trouble holding his spot because he was actually playing good.

Griffin was playing 20 or 30 minutes at hooker before he was injured.
Brown had fallen out of love with him.
    He does that.

Knights sign exciting halves prospect Lino

    Newcastle Knights
    Tue 25 Sep 2018, 11:59 AM

Mason Lino has agreed to join the nib Newcastle Knights from 2019.

The Warriors halfback has signed a two-year-deal with the Club which sees him in the red and blue until at least the end of 2020.

Knights Player List Manager Troy Pezet said the addition of Lino provides genuine competition for positions with Lino able to play half and five-eighth.

"Mason is a talented young man," Pezet said.

"He provides us with good depth for Mitchell, Kalyn and Connor."

Contracted to the Warriors for next season, the Auckland based team has agreed to an early release, so Lino can pursue an opportunity with the Knights.

A Samoan international, Lino made his NRL debut for the Warriors in 2015 where he has played 17 top grade games.

Scoring three tries in eight games last season, Lino is also a goal-kicker.

"Mason has a lot of strings to his bow," Pezet continued.

"Not only does he have a handy kicking game but he's a sharp goal-kicker too."

Embarrassing for Frawley if he went off too early, we might pass on him now.

From a Warriors perspective Lino is a guy who works hard and puts the team first. Brian Smith described him as the epitome of a true club man which was reunforced by Steve Kearney.

Could losing him come back to bite us? Possibly but the club couldnt/wouldnt upgrade him and he deserves his chance.

He will not let you down through lack of effort. One factor not really highlighted here is he is a very good goal kicker.

I just watched round 19 where Lino played for Green and I have to say im glad we bought this kid he is very good he has a good kicking game long and short he runs the ball well and tackles well . He is a nugget and is very keen when on the field don't be suprised to see him earn a first grade spot at 5/8 …. I hope he does 1 Ponga 6 Lino 7 Pearce 9 Watson 14 Levi would do me .
