This is a u20 centre with one? First grade game, yes lots of potential, and what is the question, "where will that mean Sione plays" let's wait and see how Sione goes this year and then check this bloke out and then decide who will play where. Could be serious failure of both or serious rivalry or something in between. Supporters????

    Er, no-one mentioned Sione dude!

Not sure what your getting at with this post, or why you need to bring the downer!

    I mentioned Sione,
Reason 1, the 10 post before me was pretty much saying this kid is a walk up starting centre in 2019.
Reason 2, i dont rate Sione.

I feel he would have signed to play starting center. Why else would he leave sharks just to be back up for us? And we have been desperately looking for a center!

Toohey also stated in his article that a big part of the lure in joining the Knights was his pathway into the first grade side which seems to indicate his viewed as part of our first choice 17 in 2019 onwards. Sione needs to string some footy together without any more concussions first before discussing his best position long term.

If he doesn't have a good year, looks like he might be gone?

Personally I'd be happy to have him on the wing in 2019. SKD and rossy will be 30+ by then...

Definitely. Makes things interesting for sure. Cant remember the last time we had solid competition in all positions like we do at the moment and 2019 season.

    F/Back ..Ponga , Watson , Pythian , Meaney....
Wing ..Ross , Skd , Dennis, Sio , Hughes , Meaney..
    Centre.... Moga , Sione , Dennis , Skd , Ross , Pythian ...
    5/8 ...Watson , Lamb , Pythian , Ponga , Johns ....
    1/2.... Pearce , Lamb , Cogger , Pythian , Hazard , Johns .....
Hooker ...Levi , Griffin , Buhrer , Watson , Pythian
Its nice to know that if anything happens we can cover it with someone that will come in and do the job while needed , Not in any special order so not putting someone in front of anyone ...
I know Pythian wont be ready for the start of the season but hope fully we wont have any injuries yet anyway and imo he can play almost anywhere in the backs and halves and went ok at hooker ...

    18 STARS OF 2018 | Jesse Ramien

    Ryan Selvage (Twitter: @RyanSelvage) NSWRL.com.au
    Mon 12 Feb 2018, 08:00 AM

To whet the appetite ahead of the 2018 Rugby League season, NSWRL.com.au looks at some of the up-and-coming male and female stars who will hope to represent NSW. Today, we run the eye over a 2017 NRL debutant who is pressing hard for more minutes in the top grade.

Long touted as an NRL star in the making, Jesse Ramien’s form in the 2017 Holden Cup saw him rewarded with a first-grade debut for the Cronulla Sharks in Round 26 last season.

A strong, bullocking type, Ramien’s speed and strength also saw him selected in the 2017 NSW Under-20s side, a team that went on to defeat the Maroons 30-16 before Origin Game One.

Having had a taste of the NRL last season, the 20-year-old says he is now hungry for more.

“It was an unreal experience, every kid that plays footy all they want to do is to one day play first grade,” Ramien told NSWRL.com.au in December.

“To achieve that childhood dream, it was unbelievable. I was lucky enough to grab a try, it was an afternoon I’ll never forget.

“[Sharks coach Shane Flanagan] doesn’t really care too much about age or experience, if he thinks you’re ready, he’ll give you a crack.

“We’re back into preseason now, hopefully this year I can get a few more games under my belt. That’s the goal.”

A product of the NSWRL Pathways Program, Ramien’s U-20s Blues appearance in 2017 followed his outing for the U-16s side two years prior.

Learning under the guidance of Junior Blues coach and two-time Origin series-winning captain Danny Buderus, Ramien believes he’s gained a greater understanding of what it takes to be a top-flight star.

“’Bedsy’ and Matt King, they taught us heaps, not just about footy and training but also about a lot of the lessons he learned when playing in the NRL and in Origin,” Ramien said.

“They shared with us the ‘spirit’ of the Origin game, the way it’s played… coming from someone like those guys, with what they’ve achieved in the game, it really sunk in. Throw ‘Freddy’ (Fittler) in that mix too, he’s been great in developing my game as well.

“The [Pathways] camps were a big help in getting me to the NRL level. It’s a great environment in there.

“The camps were a big reason in me getting an NRL debut, because of what I learned in my time in sky blue.”

UPDATE: Ramien, who is believed to have signed with the Newcastle Knights for the 2019 season, will first compete with incumbent Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues centre Josh Dugan and former South Sydney winger Aaron Gray in the race to fill the right centre position at the Sharks in 2018 – a role made vacant by Jack Bird’s departure to the Brisbane Broncos.

I’ve never seen him play bar Round 26 vs us. Is he as good as everyone’s hyping him up to be?

There's footage of him on youtube scoring a try against us in FG

He moves really, really well. Fast, agile, skillful. He looks like he could change a game with ball in hand

One of the better young centers in the game imo and seems a lot of "experts" say the same thing

I believe he is the real deal and that's not judging from YouTube videos.

Clear cut above in U20's and has the ticker to kick on against men. Don't get him until 2019 so he has a full year to experience playing against men in the Sharks reserves and should hit the ground running come 2019. Likely to see FG this year when Dugan gets his inevitable call up to SOO.

Yep he and Tuala were a cut above any other centre last year. Expect both to be the real deal and have long careers in FG.
