Year or so from the top 8? Form permitting, we are currently top 8. And all while our middle forwards are injured or out of form and our outside backs are out of form, badly. If all of our current squad fires at the same time we'd be competing for the top 4

If we add Wighton, Ramien, TPJ and another quality forward, were premiership contenders lol, not 'top 8'

Respect what the Dragons have done, went out and made some signings that raised eyebrows but the team has gotten better because of it. No one would have thought Widdop on his own could do it but they were fringe top 8 and now they’ve added in a proper halfback (not a hybrid halfback like hornby) and they all of a sudden have direction.
The transition from Soward, Hornby, Cooper, Morris twins wasn’t entirely easy but they made it through the other side.

I reckon if our players click well this year more soo defence we will push for the 8, but too hard at this point to tell how teams are this year, even teams like sharks and storm cant get their new teams working well.

Love the hyperbole but no way are we top 4 this year.

Maybe just in to the top 8.

Paul Gallen was on the panel of Sports Sunday and managed to catch their discussion of the comments between Brown and Bennett.

Anyway the interesting part was that Gallen said he was still good friends with Mooney from their days at the Sharks and he basically confirmed what we all knew when his rephrasing of Mooney’s description of the Knights salary cap when he got there post-Bennett as ‘disastrous’ with ‘players who were on money they shouldn’t have been on’ ‘backended contracts’ and ‘lots of unnecessary money being spent’

Yeah it seems like Bennett got his roster/salary cap advice from Des Hasler. You can’t get blamed if you’re not there.
But it’s reassuring that what everyone already knew is 100% a fact.
Sterlo backed the comment up on the footy show saying A LOT of knights fans he’s spoken to on his travels are filthy with how it all went down so it’s not just us on here.

The weekly article where Gardner says putting Brown on a week by week contract is great - and Brown still hasn't signed.
I see they are now saying Brown will get an agreed termination payment if we decide to punt him.
    I don't know if that's new.

Where does it say week by week Billy it doesn't say that in the Herald article that one doesn't mention week by week just if it all goes soth they can sack him in the short term .

If it's not fixed term, it's week by week.
If you know another category I've never heard of, we could use that term?

The term could technically be coined as whatever period the agreed severance payment would cover. I think the non fixed term is a good idea but Brown’s request for a payout sum is also fair under this structure (obviously excluding gross negligence, code of conduct and all those other statutory requirements). So it could arguably be a 12 month rolling contract if that is the value of the agreed payout.

I think Brown really needs to the end of the year and I’d support him until then. Quite like the guy and still believe he’s not playing with 100% his own team and he walked into a bloody nightmare!! If we don’t finish around 12th or above this year, then I’d say that was a bad year. Finals footy shouldn’t be a pipe dream either in 18. He must be competitive and top 4 or 6 next year if he gets to next year. That said, would take Bellamy and let Brown go in a heartbeat. Cruel, but that’s life at the top. Probably why contract is rolling. So we can let him go reletively cheap when a gun comes to the market.

As ive said before and in this thread to i think...

Making finals or being the premiers comes down to 60% effort, 30% luck, 10% class

If we have a roster in 2019 with another 4-5 nrl standard players in it than all we can ask for is that EFFORT on every play....Play to win each tackle!

The rest will be all in the hands of luck.
    Injuries, refs, suspensions, draw,
Those things go a long way to making a great roster win the comp or miss the 8 all together.

Like any business model, you need to aim for the top in every moment, though in the business of rugby league the hurdles can be crippling.
