    Injury update: Mitchell Pearce

    Newcastle Knights
    Sun 22 Apr 2018, 05:24 PM

nib Newcastle Knights halfback Mitchell Pearce sustained a ruptured pectoral muscle in Saturday's Round 7 match at Tamworth against the Wests Tigers.

Scans on Sunday have confirmed the rupture. Pearce will see a shoulder specialist this week for surgery.

He will be sidelined for approximately 16 weeks.

That hurts our chances of staying in the 8 . Connor Watson and lamb/cogger need to step up big time

One door closes another opens, I am optimistic and looking forward to this next game, effort = result.
Keep Watson till fit, play Lamb and Cogger with Buhrer on bench, it ain't a bad side.

I know this may get some criticism but why did we let cogger go and seem more keen on lamb I think cogger is a more complete footballer and can make a tackle

So best case scenario for pearce is 10 weeks, in that time we have a bye and a standalone origin round, so it ideally will only be 8 games without him.

I totally agree, I wish we could keep Cogger.

Cogger is gone unless he can back out of contract, Lamb might not get re-signed, leaves us at end of season with Pearce and Watson and no likely backup, Johns unproven, Hazard ?? Not likely. U20 showing no standout 6 or 7, best backup looks to be Starling, a hooker come half. Reality check, we need Lamb, support him.

We'll be in a tough position for sure. We need to convince Lamb to stay on as a depth player. Going to market for cheap halves is never a great exercise either, generally it seems you only sign a big name/big money half or develop a cheap one from within. A cheap guy from outside the club will only be a journeyman or reserve grader. Hazard is a small, 23-year-old guy who's been around. I haven't seen much of Johns, he could develop but he's not making reserves & sounds more like a utility type player.

Think it should be Cogger and Lamb but most likely Cogger and Buhrer with either situation Watson on bench

Mitchell Pearce is hopeful of returning from a pectoral injury suffered against the Wests Tigers on Saturday night earlier than expected.

"Worse case is four months, so 16 weeks. I've spoken to other guys ... Boyd Cordner from the Roosters is a good mate of mine, he did a similar injury that was 10 weeks. Daniel Tupou is out for 10 weeks," Pearce told local radio station KOFM.

"It just depends how you heal. I'm obviously going to think about the best case and that's 10 weeks."

    Mitchell Pearce (pectoral, round 18-23)
    Tautau Moga (knee, season)
    Connor Watson (shoulder, round 8-9)
    Nick Meaney (ankle, round 13)

Cowboys John Asiata did a very similar injury and has just had surgery. Cowboys reporting a 10-14 week recovery so one would expect the same timeframe for Pearce. Though did he require surgery?

Good update regarding Pearce's surgery and predicted return:

    https://twitter.com/nrlphysio/status/989285223731900419

For those asking about Mitchell Pearce, completely normal for surgical incision to be on the front of the shoulder for pec repair. Pec rupture usually occurs at the tendon, which attaches into the front of the upper arm.

Fairly common these days mate, 10-14 weeks the most likely range. I’m backing him for 10 weeks

    Injury update: Mitchell Pearce

    Newcastle Knights
    Fri 27 Apr 2018, 04:37 PM

Mitchell Pearce is on the road to recovery following surgery this week on his torn pectoral muscle sustained in last week's win over the Wests Tigers at Tamworth.

Club medical staff confirmed the surgery went well and Pearce is recovering well.

He will be in a sling for approximately four weeks and will undergo rehabilitation over the ensuing 10-12 weeks.
