Interesting that Brown said in one of the interviews yesterday that Ponga approached him after SOO about playing more towards the middle.
Brown said Ponga was happy at fullback for now, but implied that he can play another spot closer to the middle when he thinks he is ready.
Maybe they were talking about prop.
About the same time we see the rumour this thread is about - that the knights are happy to keep Watson as a utility, but they have young talent to cover 5/8 and would let him go if he got another offer.
The reporter asked Brown a few times about who had approached who, and Brown was very clear that Ponga approached him.
My opinion is that no one will offer Watson the sort of money we are paying him and a 5/8 position, so he'll stay here as a utility, which is OK.

I don't think we'll see that move happen for multiple years yet. Brown also said he thinks Ponga wants to master the fullback position before he might start thinking about a move. Ponga just enjoyed the physicality of the middle in Origin & surprised himself, thinking maybe he would enjoy it if he was to do it. Regardless of what happens down the line, the Watson rumour is bs from the worst mainstream NRL rumour site on the net. Even if Ponga moved to 6 next year, we would just put Watson at fullback, rather than selling him off or putting him on the bench.

Toohey confirmed this rumour as BS multiple times and says in paper today brown has personally reassured Watson as such.

Can everyone stop pretending this is a thing.

Nah bro Toohey has no idea. We’re currently in talks with Parra about a Watson/Will Smith trade. #bringbacklocals
