    Maroons confirm jersey numbers

    QRL Media
    Wed 20 Jun 2018, 06:59 PM

Maroons coach Kevin Walters has confirmed the jersey numbers for Game Two of the Holden State of Origin series in Sydney.

Kalyn Ponga will debut in the No.14 jersey, while Billy Slater returns at fullback after missing the opening game due to a hamstring injury.

They are the only (1-17) changes from Game One, with Walters and the QRL today submitting the line-up to the official Big League match-day publication as part of NRL guidelines.

The Maroons held their first field session this morning on the Gold Coast.

In an encouraging sign, prop Dylan Napa ran freely and completed most of the opposed session against the XXXX Queensland Residents.

Walters was buoyed by the sight of Napa getting through his work and will now "see how he pulls up".

Another field session against the Residents team is scheduled for tomorrow.

    2. Valentine HOLMES - Cronulla Sharks

    17. Jai ARROW - Gold Coast Titans

You have to pinch yourself how Ponga ended up with us. He came here with no other signings and Brown really ran a risk by signing him.

Here is running in for QLD. The Pearce injury hurts, to think we could be in the 8

State of Origin II, New South Wales v Queensland, Sunday, 7.40pm at ANZ Stadium

NSW: James Maloney (back) has come through the Blues contact session unscathed, while Brad Fittler has announced Matt Prior has won the race to replace Reagan Campbell-Gillard in the front row rotation ahead of Ryan James.

Queensland: Dylan Napa trained on Thursday to improve his chance of starting after suffering an ankle injury against Penrith in round 15. Veteran fullback Billy Slater is set to play despite his hamstring problem. Kalyn Ponga spent some time training at fullback on Thursday as Queensland consider how best to use him off the bench.

It's a hangover from lots of loser series but this game is a worry, win this or loose series, can't see us losing this and then winning in Brisbane.

heading down for the game. honestly would rather see the blues lose then ponga get injured. Would be quietly happy to see ponga come on and destroy the blues.

The only bad thing taking the shine of winning tonight was that JT, Cronk and Smith retired, kudo's to them for releasing their time was over though. Can't understand why Slater didn't want to go out a winner though...... Ditto GI as well.

    Boys need to settle down.
The ref doesn't want to give penalties, but silly play means he has no choice.

Ponga defending close to the middle and looking like he's been doing it his whole life is the last thing I thought i'd see today.
I don't know what they are trying to do with him, but defence is not a problem so far.

Was it a fair penalty try? I can’t watch it as we have no free to air tv and am looking at updates. I’d hate to win on a dodgy call & face the wanks at work tomorrow & put up with the whining

He definitely would have scored, but he was a long way out still. I was surprized they gave it.

Ponga 13 tackles in the middle in short minutes, and almost no runs because they are not passing him the ball. Puzzling.
