    IMPORTANT INFO - PLEASE READ

    * Player stats mostly from NRL.com except for Line Break Assists, Penalties Conceded, Errors, Sin Bins and Send Offs which are from Fox Sports

    * I have added post contact metres for the forwards this year but got rid of runs on all players made as I would have had to of go through every match day and tally them up player by player because I got metres from NRL.com which means if I got runs from Fox Sports it would not be accurate

    * Keep in mind the NRL include ineffective tackles in calculating the tackle efficiency percentage. For example Mitch Barnett made 681 tackles and missed 74 which would be a tackle efficiency of 90.2% but as you see Barnett's tackle efficiency is listed as 86.4% due to ineffective tackles being calculated in

    * In terms of rankings in the team stats, 16th is the worst in every category whereas 1st is best so in terms of errors being ranked 6th is a good thing as it means we make the 6th least amount of errors. Same applies to penalties conceded and running metres conceded

    * The 2017 Team Stats were from NRL.com so keep that mind when viewing

    * In the 2018 Club Stats Rankings I have added a few new categories: Forced Dropouts, Average Completion Rate and Running Metres Conceded

    * We used 29 players this year compared to 31 last year

Well that's another season done and that means it's time for the annual stats review

Please read the top section of the first post before reading the stats

I have added a poll this year for everyone to grade our season

The grade you give can be just personal opinion or just based on numbers or both. C is a pass mark

If you notice any errors let me know and I'll fix it up

There may be a few because I have been doing this between shifts at work while drinking way too much coffee to try and stay awake :hello:

Anyway I hope you all enjoy reading through this and as always looking forward to seeing your opinions

Thanks Everyone and UP THE KNIGHTS !!!!

Thanks roughie. Very interesting reading and comparisons. My rating is a C with a lot of bad luck injury wise.

I would probably give the back end of the season a C, too much of the season was a D for mine though.

Stas are what stats are and then they are how you read them, but great effort Roughie it is appreciated.

I have gone with a C , simply because we have had some brilliant individual efforts and could have finished much higher than expected if injuries to key players at the same time had have been kinder to us but unfortunately this is a team sport and as a team we failed to reach an acceptable level on numerous occasions.

It is a harsh reality that to close the gap between our best players and our players who are lacking is probable to far even if the team was stable through the year and combinations were allowed to flourish.

I am ever hopeful that we are on the right track with the recruitment to date and with a few more strategic buys in critical positions the team and the depth of the team will see us reach potential in the near future.

Can't wait until Ponga gets older and stronger so he can start breaking tackles.

He finished 3rd for tackle breaks overall, But Cotric and Tedesco played more games

Big gap between Ponga and Trbojevic who also played more games

Bottom line, If Ponga plays 24 games I reckon he racks up 160+

Most Tackle Breaks in the NRL

    Nick Cotric - 149 in 24 games
    James Tedesco - 147 in 22 games
    Kalyn Ponga - 140 in 20 games
    Tom Trbojevic - 114 in 22 games
Roger Tuivasa Sheck - 109 in 22 games

Not bad when you compare him to other hookers who play the same sort of minutes

I won't go through and tally them all up but using Fox Sports (who's numbers differ slightly but not by much) you get a general idea where he ranks in key areas among NRL hookers

I've only compared him those guys that play most of the game at hooker and play 50 minutes plus at hooker so that excludes people like Josh McGuire, Wade Egan, Lewis Brown, Elijah Taylor etc etc

In terms of rankings 16th is the worst in every category and 1st is best so don't hink it's a bad thing when you see him ranked 5th for errors, This means he makes bugger all

Does like to give away a penalty or 2 though does our Danny :giggle:

    Danny Levi Rankings (Attack)

    Total Metres - 19th
Line Breaks - No Line Breaks Made
    Tackle Breaks - 21st
    Try Assists - Equal 6th
Line Break Assists - Equal 5th
    Offloads - Equal 9th

    Danny Levi Rankings (Defence)

    Total Tackles Made - 15th
    Missed Tackles - 7th
    Tackle Efficiency - Equal 2nd

    Danny Levi Rankings (Discipline)

    Errors - 5th
    Penalties Conceded - 10th

Those rankings are just a rough guide but what is obvious to me is that Danny has worked really hard on his defence (Not that it was bad to begin with)

Tackle efficiency of 92-93% is outstanding

It is also a matter of the team and the quality you play with

No line breaks for a dummy half who loves to take a quick tap is kinda surprising.

Otherwise, he's been pretty solid. Hoping he can build on that for next season

So what is a line break exactly, is it bursting through and off loading before tackled or just bursting through and eventually tackled or not.
Levi makes many short burst breaks from dummy half but is mostly tackled or gains a penalty rather than passing to another player, usually as it all happens so quickly.

Noticed that Tom Starling goes into next season with 9 tackles, 0 missed, 0 ineffective, tackle efficiency 100%.
That was the one thing I hoped he'd do well in his first game, so he doesn't get typecast as a poor defender.

Looking at the games stats really does emphasise just how much of a killer injuries were for us. Pearce, Ponga, Watson, Griffin, Moga, Saifiti x 2 and Ross all missed a few games at least. Even Fitzgibbon getting suspended for a couple weeks happened at a terrible time.

The only key player that seemed to escape injury was Guerra and he’s walking around in a bloody moon boot.

Surely we’ve used up all of our bad luck and we’ll get a chance to strong some games together with our best players next year.

Rated the season a D for mine as we really did struggle with injuries, and still in mathematic contention for the spoon until right at the end.

The fact we’re last in metres made and metres conceded makes it a miracle we didn’t come last.

Looking at all of those rankings it looks like a wooden spoon year, the class of Ponga & Pearce helped us pinch a few close games.

The fact that Pearce was our second best offloader makes me think our forwards need to offload more often.

    I’ll give the season a C

At the start of the year I expected a pass for us was around 10th this year but still in contention for a top 8 spot come rounds 21-22.

I think I expected it to take longer than it did for us to adjust and gel as a squad with so many new faces, players moving into unfamiliar roles, etc. but we seemed to be progressing on that front quicker than I expected.

And then the injuries just kept rolling through for so many key players and combinations. That meant 2 things:

Building cohesive combinations (particularly in our spine) was near on impossible and we were also clearly exposed with the lack of depth in our club at this stage of the rebuild.

Apart from the frustration of some underwhelming efforts in quite a few games, even with our injury issues, I think we are about where I would expect us to be and at about a C minus on this years performance.

I expect to be a much harder marker for next season, particularly if we can add a couple more quality signings and some back up depth to our roster
