    Off-season injury update

    Thu 5th October, 03:20PM

Knights TV spoke with Physical Performance Manager Tony Ayoub for an update on the fitness of a number of players recovering from injuries.

Ayoub said that during the off-season period, the Club has been managing player recovery and expect most will be back for the start of pre-season training.

“We had Daniel Saifiti who unfortunately injured himself in one of the last games,” Ayoub stated.

“He dislocated his shoulder and chipped a bit of bone off the front of his glenoid rim.

“He had to have a reconstruction and the same thing with Mitch Barnett, who hurt his shoulder in the last game.

“Mitch had a problem right through the year that we were always going to look at at the end of the year, but he just aggravated that in the last game.

“Both had reconstructions, but both surgeries have gone well and they are into rehab as we speak.

“We expect both of them to have a hampered pre-Christmas period but after Christmas they’ll be back into the main swing of things.

“Daniel will be right for trials and then hopefully Round 1 and Mitch we will see how he is going once we get past that January period.”

Luke Yates and Brock Lamb, who both missed the remaining two games of the season, are also tracking well for a November 1 start.

“Luke Yates had ankle surgery, syndesmosis, and had a tight rope put into his ankle before the end of the season,” Ayoub explained.

“He is expected to be running on November 1 and while he probably won’t be doing everything at that time, we’ll get him out onto the field.”

“Brock had a grade two medial ligament tear which put him in a brace for about three to four weeks.

“He has had some treatment with our physios so all is going well and we expect him to be raring to go on November one.

“He won’t miss anything and by that stage it would have scarred up and been stabilised.”

Ayoub said a few players have also had some clean outs for some niggling injuries.

“Cory Denniss had a clean out of his ankle,” he explained.

“It was an injury he picked up halfway through the year that we’d been managing and just had a little fragment floating around in the back of his ankle that we had to take out.

“Three weeks down the track and he’s really got no issues so he’ll hit the ground running in the group and doing everything that is expected.

“Nathan Ross had an elbow clean out, just little fragments floating around.

“It is probably the norm these days with Clubs, having a number of players who have niggles that just need a clean-up but in the main we expect everyone to be fit and ready to go for round one.”

    Tautau Moga injury update

    Wed 15th November, 03:52PM

2018 nib Newcastle Knights recruit Tautau Moga underwent surgery on his shoulder following the Brisbane Broncos’ finals campaign.

Moga aggravated a shoulder injury during the finals, and following scans and consultation with an orthopaedic surgeon, he required shoulder surgery.

Now nearing six weeks post operation, the centre will enter a routine rehabilitation program when he officially starts pre-season training with the Club next week.

Moga will still be able to run during the program to maintain fitness, but at this stage his expected return to playing will be in March.

Geez, surely Brisbane didn't keep using Moga knowing he was doing further damage and knowing he was going to another club and the injury would be their problem!

Kind of sounds similar to the Bird situation Bennet chucked the toys out of his cot about recently good ole double standard Bennet at his best.

Oh I know member, like when he chucked a tanty over Cronulla announcing Bird had signed with Brisbane, yet it was Bennet who announced officially that Ese'ese was coming to Newcastle.

    Injury report

Set to officially start pre-season training next week, Tautau Moga has got an early mark on his start with the Club.

“He doesn’t start until next week and he said he wanted to come in and do some training early,” Ayoub added.

After should stabilisation surgery, Moga will be doing rehabilitation before getting back to full training.

“He is six weeks out ofsurgery and he’s raring to go and is asking us what he can and can’t do,” Ayoub stated.

“Mitch (Barnett) and Daniel (Saifiti) are also rehabilitating (from shoulder reconstructions) and there is not a lot they can do but they’ve been fantastic.

“They have been doing a lot of running and it's been a tough three weeks for them.

“Hopefully with another couple of weeks under our belt, we will see them phase into some skills with the boys.

“Meanwhile we get Jack Johns back next week who had a fractured arm and had a plate put in and Dylan Phythian is 14 weeks down the track after his ACL and is going along tremendously and working really hard.”

No one for certain, but Moga, Dan Saifiti, Barnett and Phythian are all racing the clock to be fit.
