Milford, Napa in Queensland Origin side Mon 22 May, 2017, 1:01pm QRL The Queensland Maroons have named two new faces for the opening match of the 2017 Holden State of Origin series. Roosters prop Dylan Napa and Broncos five-eighth Anthony Milford have both been selected in the starting 17 for the May 31 match at Suncorp Stadium. A member of the QAS Emerging Origin squad, Napa gets his opportunity to step up following Matt Scott's season-ending knee injury. With star playmaker Johnathan Thurston highly unlikely to be fit due to a shoulder injury, coach Kevin Walters is backing Anthony Milford to step up at five-eighth. Thurston, who has made 36 consecutive Origin appearances for the Maroons, will still travel to Brisbane and will be assessed by the Maroons medical team at the start of camp. Think so? Unless Daley names a side based on current form he and his mates deserves the chop. It is becoming like an 'old boys club' just to pick up the $25 grand a game. And it is ruining the NRL Premiership. Players injured, missing from critical rounds etc. Stand alone weekends in lieu of the byes, or October after grand final.
I reckon moving it after the season would take a lot of the hype out of it. It does stuff up the NRL for a good part there but I think that should just be accepted as part of the game, it's the part of the season where rookies get to showcase their talent & the lesser teams can get a leg up on the successful, rep loaded teams.
I just read that Paul Vaughn is tipped not to make the 18. Laurie's an idiot but surely he's not that bad?
Peace and Peats named for NSW Mon 22 May, 2017, 6:30pm NRL.com Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce has been recalled while Titans hooker Nathan Peats will make his State of Origin debut after New South Wales announced their team on Monday night. Blues coach Laurie Daley decided to go with Peats at hooker when Panthers rake Peter Wallace was ruled out with a groin injury. Sydney Roosters back-rower Boyd Cordner will become the 19th player to captain the NSW Origin side. Cordner, who has made six Origin appearances for NSW since debuting in 2013, will lead a team boasting veterans Jarryd Hayne, Pearce and Brett Morris, while Peats and Jake Trbojevic are set to make their Origin debuts next Wednesday night. Additional players Matt Moylan, Jordan McLean and Jack De Belin will join the team in camp at Kingscliff. NSW Team: 1. James Tedesco 2. Brett Morris 3. Josh Dugan 4. Jarryd Hayne 5. Blake Ferguson 6. Unbelievable that Paul Vaughan hasnt been picked! Hope nsw lose again and loz and bozo get booted.. total joke
Qld 3 NSW 0 Hayne in the centres who has been rubbish all year and who has been found out in defence in that position. Blake Fergusson? Seriously how does this turd keep getting picked for rep teams, about as much use as a 1 legged man in an arse kicking competition at this level. Brett Morris? When was the last time he was relevant? Are you picking him because of the stupid he has experience line? Peats? Barely plays and is always injured, just picking a new hooker for the sake of picking a new hooker . Pathetic..... same ole same ole.
Laurie has surprised me the last couple seasons, he has actually blooded a couple of decent players that I wouldn't have expected like Mansour & Adam Reynolds last series, Peats with McLean in the reserves this year. Totally expected Farah to be named. In saying that, picking Brett Morris just because he was there a few years ago is pretty conservative. Don't know why Vaughan isn't there. Hayne has played plenty of centre, he's a supremely talented athlete, he may be an arrogant bludger, but that doesn't take away from it, he'll be a danger. Queensland have gone very conservative, Myles & Guerra are crap now. Slater, Holmes & Hess would have been 3 very dangerous additions to the team. Milford will probably be good just because he has Cronk next to him doing all the important work.
We are probably lucky that QLD not picking Slater and Holmes almost equals our stupidity in picking plod like Woods and Jackson. If Vaughan and De Bellin were picked instead I'd be pretty happy with the team
I think Laurie was to busy to watch any games to see how players were actually going & just watched past highlight reels instead.
Form props for NSW have been Vaughan and Paulo and that blasted 'drop the ball' Jackson must have caught Daley in a compromised position somehow! The three bench forwards are streets better than him, as is Merrin and De Belin and I can just see Dugan being injured yet again. The plane is just a joke. He never even tried last weekend. How can players make the Australian team and then miss State of Convenience? The lunatics have control of the asylum Turdburg, but we know Channel 9 and big bucks rule in Rupe's World. Hopefully crud selections will eventually kill this dumb series. Daley and Walters. A match made in heaven.
Pretty disappointed Vaughn missed out, has he been watching the games as I have??Also would much rather have Hayne to wing and Bird to centre.
I'm actually quiet happy with the NSW side, only question would be over Morris (J.A.Carr) and Jackson (Graham start, Vaughn to bench) Plus would have Woodsy captain instead of Cordner However still think they can get the better of one of the poorest QLD sides in years!
