    Taupau, Matulino charged by MRC

    Mon 14 Aug, 2017, 10:38am
    ‌‌‌NRL.com

Sea Eagles prop Martin Taupau has narrowly avoided suspension for his high shot on Wests Tigers hooker Matt McIlwrick while Warriors front-rower Ben Matulino is looking at a week on the sidelines, with both forwards charged by the NRL match review committee.

Taupau was slapped with a grade one careless high tackle charge, which attracts a fine. Due to a poor recent record the former Tiger will be forced to pay $2,100 with an early guilty plea, up from the $1,500 base penalty for the charge.

Matulino was cited for a shoulder charge on Raiders forward Elliott Whitehead, and the grade one charge means Matulino will be suspended for a week with an early guilty plea or two weeks if he challenges the charge unsuccessfully at the NRL judiciary.

    ‌‌‌AAP

Parramatta's bid for a top-four spot has taken a hit with forward Manu Ma'u suspended for Thursday's crucial NRL clash with Brisbane.

Ma'u has accepted a one-match ban for shoulder charging Gold Coast playmaker Ash Taylor during last week's 30-8 win over the Titans in Sydney.

Backrower Ma'u, who's played 21 games this season, will be absent as the fifth-placed Eels face the second-ranked Broncos at Suncorp Stadium in the penultimate round of the regular season.

Sydney Roosters forward Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Canterbury's Brett Morris and Wests Tiger David Nofoaluma all avoided bans after pleading guilty to dangerous conduct charges from the weekend.

Cronulla stars James Maloney and Wade Graham accepted fines for tripping and high tackle offences respectively against North Queensland on Saturday.

    Tetevano faces three-match ban

    ‌‌‌NRL.com

The Roosters are set to lose forward Zane Tetevano to a three-game suspension for his high shot on Gold Coast Titan Ben Nakubuwai.

Tetevano was charged with a grade three reckless high tackle and faces a maximum five-match ban if he unsuccessfully fights the charge at the judiciary, and would miss three games with an early guilty plea.

Elsewhere the Gold Coast's Keegan Hipgrave is facing a one-match ban if he pleads guilty to a grade one shoulder charge, while Manly's Darcy Lussick is also facing a one-match ban for tripping.

Lussick's tripping charge would usually be punished with a fine but with two previous recent offences to his name the Sea Eagles prop is instead facing a one-match ban regardless of a guilty plea.
