Jake Granville extends his contract by a further 2 years. Let the re-signings begin for the premiers.

Rabbitohs Support Thomas Burgess’ Skill Development

    Member Release
    Fri 4th December, 11:00AM

The South Sydney Rabbitohs can confirm that Thomas Burgess has been given the opportunity to develop his skills by participating in NFL training during his off-season break.

The Rabbitohs value Thomas’ desire to be the best professional athlete he can be and support his endeavour.

Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire and Thomas had discussed ways to better Burgess’ speed, strength and agility, and are confident that the experience will be beneficial.

“We’re fully supportive of our players trying to improve themselves,” said Maguire.

“This will provide a unique and valuable experience for Thomas, one that he will no doubt learn a lot from and in turn be able to bring back to the Rabbitohs for the coming season.”

The Club can confirm that Thomas Burgess is contracted to the Rabbitohs until the end of the 2018 season.

Lafai has been released from Bulldogs, I'd be stoked to have him here but apparently were not interested...?

Dylan Farrell set to retire due to back injury, Dragons look to Tim Lafai and Peta Hiku

    December 6, 2015 4:25pm
    Paul Crawley
    The Daily Telegraph

ST George Illawarra centre Dylan Farrell could be forced into retirement at just 24 years of age as a back injury continues to plague the young star.

Farrell, who began his career with South Sydney, has struggled with the injury for months and Dragons coach Paul McGregor admitted the outlook wasn’t promising.

“He hasn’t been able to resume training. It is not looking great,” McGregor told The Daily Telegraph.

“He can’t lift his kids up so that is not a good thing.

“But I think (a decision on his future) is a few weeks away, He is only young.”

Without Farrell, the Dragons have a genuine need to get more depth in the outside backs, with the other three-quarter contenders including Euan Aitken and Peter Mata’utia.

McGregor said the Dragons were in the market for a player like Manly’s Peta Hiku or Canterbury’s Tim Lafai, who was just granted a release from his Bulldogs contract.

“I haven’t spoken to Tim (Lafai) or his management.

Obviously my recruitment will look at that (this week) because that has only now just come about,” McGregor said.

“We have spoken to Peta Hiku, he has obviously got two other clubs interested.

“We have shown interest because he is certainly a quality footballer and for a player like that to come on the market so late and you have got room in your cap, you’d be silly not to have a look at that type of player.”

That's sad, he was a good player. A shame to have him retire at such a young age...

Don't know why the Bulldogs got rid of Lafai for Hopoate. Am I the only one who thinks he's average?

James Roberts has requested a release from the Titans, I would be hugely disappointed if we don't get him now he's completely up for grabs. Roberts with a big prop or two and Brown has done his job. I can live with our short depth in other areas, Roberts is a game breaker and would bring our backline back up into the best in the NRL area. With a backline full of speed and talent, Mullen and Hodkinson to stay fit and get our young forwards firing and who knows what they're capable of.

Talented, seems to have his attitude in the right place. Don't think the price the bidding war will create is worth it.

Yeah he'll command something big. Although reading up on the latest news & rumours in the NRL world, you'd have to think we'd be in one of the best positions to sign him seeing as all clubs' salary caps seem to be full, Roosters can't fit in Farah, Souths trying to fit in Burgess, Manly trying to fit in Walker, Bulldogs getting rid of Lafai for Hopoate, clubs trying to get Hiku etc.
