We have to sign Ethan Niszcott for next year.
I've never seen him play, but the Knights must have a Ziggy.

Sorry I Strongly disagree, we were talking about him after the game and our take on it was a lot different. I'm not going to say a bad word about the kid, Its just our opinion.

I'm just talking about the name. Ziggy Niszcott was one of my favourite players when I was a kid. A real personality player from Newcastle who was a South Sydney great well before Newcastle had a team.

Looks like we have finished 6th in Ball.
The thing about Mathews and Ball is that form in the comp can often be thrown out the window when the finals start, because many coaches don't name their best sides till the knockout games. Let's hope our coach has a few tricks up his sleeve and we get serious next week.

Opinions on the Matts team this year? Were there any stand outs?

I only saw 2 games live and watched all the highlight packages.
The only guy who really jumped out was Tex Hoy.
He played fullback in the games I saw, but went to 5/8 and then halfback as the season went on.
I think he is still a year young and should play Mathews again next year.
He looks above average height for his age and is pretty skinny.
He has great pace, footwork and vision.
He is a very good goal kicker.
The thing that really stands out about him is that he is as cool under pressure as anyone I've seen at this age and he makes plays that usually come off.
Not sure which position will be his best, but definately in the spine somewhere.

I was quite confused by you post!
Guess im a bit younger and did not get the connection
I'm hopeing so with the team! fuk the politics off!!! And play the form kids!
Seems the majority are the young ones!!!
A few of the seionrs are getting it done
Lets hope they play the form guys! NOT just the signed ones
Tex Hoy is a propper gun!
    He is fully skilled up!

I think this weeks ball side should be the same but in replacement Jayden butterfield to start pushing max king to the bench and replacing Lyndon hills with kurt is dark and keeping the same bench

Well we play South Sydney at New Era Stadium Cabramatta in the Ball quarterfinals.

We have won 6 of 9 and finished 6th.

They won 4 and drew 1 of 8 (with a bye) and finished 7th.

They have dropped from 4th to 7th in the last month or so.

I think it's a winnable game, but finals can't be taken lightly. Teams lift for finals.

Looking at some of the results, I see Brodie Jones has scored 5 tries in 3 games since he moved to 5/8. That should take a lot of pressure off O'Hagan.

It's worth looking at this video clip again.
It's O'Hagan, Starling, Jones and Dark after they won the Mathews title last year.
There are a lot of other good players in the side, but these four pretty much make up the quality spine of the team.
I wouldn't be surprized to see all four play some NYC this year as they turn 17.
The footage in the clip is worth seeing too. Some vintage O'Hagan runs in there.

I think Jones scoring so many tries in the last few rounds might be the edge we need. From that interview, everyone knows how good O'Hagan is and I expect he will have all the best defenders on him in the finals, but Starling is a very smart hooker and Jones is a very good attacking player, so I expect Starling is seeing that Jones gets a bit more room to move and giving him the ball rather than O'Hagan all the time. Jones at 5/8 means opposition teams need to do more than just shut down O'Hagan.

    SG Ball - Finals footy

    Fri 17th April, 12:45PM

Newcastle Knights v South Sydney Rabbitohs (Elimination Final)

(New Era Stadium, Saturday 18 April, 2:30pm)

It’s do or die as the Newcastle Knights take on the Rabbitohs in an explosive elimination final this Saturday at New Era Stadium.

South Sydney were set for a top-four finish but stumbled in the final round in losing 20-8 to the Sharks.

A hat trick of tries to Brodie Jones helped Newcastle clinch their place in the Finals in a high-scoring affair with the Central Coast Centurions by 46-34.

The Rabbitohs will have their hands full with Knights fullback Ngangarra Barker who has been one of this season’s standout performers.

Siosifa Talakai is also in top form captaining the Rabbitohs this season and will be motivated to make his mark in the Finals.

Don’t miss this match that promises to be an absolute cracker!

SG Ball Knights set for finals

    Fri 17th April, 03:03PM

After finishing sixth on the competition ladder, the Newcastle Knights SG Ball side progresses to the semi final on Saturday.

Coach Trevor Ott believes the U18 Knights’ place in the finals is a reward for consistent football throughout the season.

“We are a very young side so consistency is something we’ve aimed,” Ott said.

“That’s probably helped us to a crack at the semi finals.

With 17 sides in the competition, Saturday’s match will be the Knights’ first encounter with South Sydney.

“We have watched some highlights and videos of the team and they have some strong forwards and some big fellas we will have to handle in the middle,” he said.

“But I think our skill and finesse will do the trick.”

The SG Ball Knights have a number of top performing players who have worked hard thoroughout the season including Jayden Butterfield who will return into the front row after missing two weeks through injury.

“He’s been very good week in week out,’ Ott said.

NSW Cup coach Matt Lantry has been following the team’s success throughout the season and believes the Knights have performed particularly well for a young side.

“These competitions this time of year are always affected by school footy and Club starts, there a number of things that impact on the team, so they have done really well to finish in the top eight,” Lantry said.

“It’s a really good experience for those kids as not too many have played semi final football at that level before and they’ll soon find out what it’s all about.

“They will just need to stay comprised and go about their individual roles, hopefully they can contribute to the team

“There have been a few that have been playing some good footy and they have been rewarded with a bit of training with the Under20s Knights early in the week.”

“It’s good for them to see a pathway in the Club,” Ott said.

“They’re certainly be a few that will move up and fill in with the NYC crew between now and the end of the year.” Lantry said.

“It’s quite a young squad, so that puts us in good stead for 12 months time when a big portion for that squad will stay around and be at the right age for under 18s.

“Our head coach Rick Stone is passionate about the local area and wants to get back to ensuring that our U20s have a strong flavor of local content because the kids around here are good enough.

“If you’re prepared to work hard and take the opportunity, it will always be there.”

It will be interesting to see which players get a run in NYC this year.
With Levi injured, they could probably do with Starling this week, and Levi will probably need a second hooker all season.
O'Hagan might be the backup half if either Lamb or Cogger have to play reps or something.
Barker could fill in on the wings or even at fullback if a spot comes up.
Butterfield might get a bench spot, as might Jones, Dark and Stone.
We haven't used many Ball players in recent years, and most of those guys are a year young, so maybe only one or two will get a run.

Team list is up and it looks like Barker is out and Faitotoa goes to fullback and Heath Gibbs comes in as winger.
    That's not a good start.
Barker can be a match winner on his day.

16-0 down halfway through the first half.
It is under 18s though, so the game could turn around and we could score the next 16 points.

    22-0 to souths
On the plus side, if Levi is injured in NYC we can rush Starling into the side now. He might even get a bench spot tomorrow.

    28 - 6 to souths at halftime
