It could be a very good thing for local footy.

I can see a lot of young blokes extending their careers now that they have another option - young blokes like Kori Barber, Nathan Clarke, Jake Finn, Joel Brown and even guys like Simon Williams and Callan Richardson could all go knocking on their door.

I'd like to see the Knights work with them too - give them blokes like Sawene and others we have been putting into the local comp.
 
I've long said the best thing would have been to amalgamate with the upper Hunter and central coast and find about 8 sides like The Entrance, Wyong, Cessnock, Wests, Singleton etc who could all afford a 500k salary cap, and put all the poorer clubs into an amatuer comp they could afford to compete in.
Forcing the rich clubs to 'dumb down' their efforts has been a lose/lose for everyone.
