Jacob Saifiti in altercation with Dane Cordner

Does not matter Saleybugs as they were on the booze at 1.30am and ejected by the bouncer says more than enough.

Thing is we don't even know if he was drunk or just got into an argument and got KO.d could have been a push and shove and then good night . If the Knights find out it wasn't Jacobs fault then the knights and Jacob should see about restitution from Cordner .
Drinking or not, shouldn’t make a difference. They were both escorted by security so obviously isn’t a good look. Jacob could possibly be sacked depending on the situation.

Despite being far and away the better twin in U20’s Jacob really hasn’t proved much in FG anyway even when fit. Only way he should be kept in the 30 would be as a sweetener for his brother to stay in future negotiations.

No facts he got in a fight with a local footballer that’s all the facts you need

Thought you were going on vacation for rest of the off season?

He could of been king hit for all we know.

Average footballer anyway so no great loss.

Trouble is there have been a few games where Jacob really has looked better than Daniel , trouble is its only been a few games . A lot of people giving it too Jacob but for all we know Cordner pushes Jacob , Jacob pushes back and gets knocked out . IF its anything like that then go off at Cordner instead .

Club statement: Jacob Saifiti

Newcastle Knights
Mon 3 Dec 2018, 11:50 AM

Newcastle Knights player Jacob Saifiti was involved in an altercation in Hamilton on Sunday morning which resulted in him suffering a broken leg.

The incident occurred outside the Greenroof hotel.

Saifiti was involved in a verbal altercation with a patron which was broken up by security.

Security staff acted appropriately and effectively.

Subsequently, after Saifiti left the establishment, he and a man came together.

There was a push and shove which resulted in Saifiti suffering a punch.

Having fallen awkwardly as a result of the punch, Saifiti injured his leg and was transported to hospital by security staff.

The matter is now with the police.

Given the facts, Saifiti may be subject to disciplinary action taken by the Club at the appropriate time.

Jacob could possibly be sacked depending on the situation.

Not likely, given they will want to keep Dan happy.

Geez jsaf has been a disappointment.

And where was dsaf during all this, cant imagine he would stand by after his bro gets knocked out.

Probably more to this yet to come out I reckon.

Disciplinary action aside, it is going to be March when he is back on the field and probably two months before he is first grade ready. A set back for someone his age no doubt, and probably slots him behind Sasulo at the start of next year.

Jeez I wouldn't go that far. Has been disappointing but has had some good games along the way. Definitely worthy of a top 30 spot, if not as a guy that could potentially get better over time, then at least as prop depth.

Hey everyone,

Can we please keep all news regarding this incident in this thread instead of being spread over 3 different threads

Thanks

Footballers as role models is the weirdest concept.
It's like saying kids should only listen to music by Michael Buble because Freddy Mercury, Mick Jagger etc etc were all terrible role models.
I care about players making poor choices that lead to injuries - but if they spend their days off watching porn or attending church is of absolutely no interest to me, and if any of my young relatives said they wanted to be just like a boof headed footballer, I'd probably have a laugh at their expense, unless they were actually a chance to make a living out of footy.

Couldn’t agree more. They live a life in front of the cameras, which is pressure enough, particularly beginning from an age of around 18 or younger.

Jacob obviously did a stupid thing, but he’s 22 and had a few drinks farewelling a good mate in Yates. It’s only been made worse by the injury he sustained. I hope he cops a small suspension, falls behind in the pecking order for a bit and then trains hard and becomes a better player for it.

Spoken like a bloke who doesn't have kids. These guys are super heros too young kids and get paid well to represent the club and the brand of rugby league so much it's written into their contracts.

You misbehave you risk bye bye Birdy.

Edit: Futher more as part of the new salary cap they even stipulated they'd help grow the game by positively promoting it.

And sorry at 18 your an adult and the nrl educates you about your duties.

By all means he deserves to be punished and hard as a repeat offender. Not saying sacked but $50k fine with half suspended as well as last strike and your out sounds right to me.

I agree with Billy. Footballers aren’t role models for children. You’re parents and adults that you are close to are.

This by no means gives footballers the right to carry on and misbehave but to suggest that they are role models to people they don’t even know is ludicrous.

I have girls and they are more likely to be dancers then footballers at this stage but of course every kid who's ever played a backyard game of football wants to be Joey or GI just like they want to be Barbie or a Jedi when role playing.

Good conduct is written into their contract if they want to have the privacy of Joe Bloggs like us get out of the spotlight and get a normal job. Otherwise until you hang up the boots your under the rules of your club and the nrl.
