Official: Knights sign David Klemmer for 5 years

They are only over because clubs can have a free for all and talk to players under contract. Cut that out and contracts may mean a thing like all other professional organisations.

You see how the NRL are reporting it vs other news sites? Other sites, Klemmer unhappy with dogs and wants out to join Knights on massive 4.6mill 4 year deal....vs NRL, Klemmer wants out on personal grounds, Knights expected to be leading club to potentially sign him should dogs release him.

Everyone else acknowledges this crap goes on openly, yet NRL still play their PR game, like players leaving to play under bennet for cheap, or whatever.

Enforcing the anti tampering rule won't work as it is unenforceable, same as salary cap is. Players will still have personal problems and suddenly end up at a new club.

As much as you want it to be otherwise, how things should be, and how the reality is are very different things.

There is a rumor of a trade deal one or both twins for Klemmer which I don’t understand cos we need props so I don’t believe it

No chance in hell do they let either Safiti boy go. Can't imaging them wanting to play for different clubs either.

CCB I really don't get your point here,
Are you trying to make a argument for the hell of it?
This crap with Klemmer happens 10 times a year, why is it such a big issue for you now?

Get back in your box for 5 minutes mate, maybe you should take the same holiday from the forum I do.

CCB?

Like I’ve already acknowledged that all clubs do it and it’s a shocking look for the game as someone else has already stated on here. It’s an issue because this one involves the Knights so I can talk about it on here?...

I could just as easily bring up how bad it is with the Cowboys poaching Holmes under similar circumstances but I’m sure most on here wouldn’t care. Correct?

Hurry up and go on your said vacation from the forums then or add to the topic instead of adding nothing to it.

Prob just dogs trying to get something on the deal. Klem already asked for release on personal grounds though so for once we are in the position of advantage.

You have already talked about Holmes multiple times none with a care factor toward him being under contract.

That’s the whole issue. A lot of fans are beginning to get sick of the PR game and are calling for changes. The comp is run like amateurs.

That’s a matter of opinion re enforcing the anti tampering rule. They work perfectly fine in the US. There’s a trade period for players to ask for a move. In between those times they can either toughen up and do what they’re payed for or sit out without pay.

Yeah but they are paid exponentially more and are well off no matter the decision.

NRL players play out their career and dont earn what is sports stars do in one year.

So because they don’t earn as much we shouldn’t use their concept to make it a better run organisation? That sounds fairly weak in my opinion.

The players need to learn to stick by their agreement that they were happy to sign at the time. Their big boys now not kids.

They shouldn’t be able to have more power then the club. If a player wants a release and the club denies it then they should be forced to play or just sit out without pay.

Anyway this is going around in circles now. I’ll leave it at that.

I agree, players shouldn't be able to do this or that, but I don't live in pretend make believe land. Fact is they can, and do demand things and leave clubs mid contract.

Been happening for a long time now. NSWRAL, ARL, NRL etc all happy enough apparently to let it continue happening. I refuse to feel any guilt at all that we are benefiting from it for a change. And that's even IF he signs here.

Ofcourse it has but there’s gotta be a time when someone in HQ says enough is enough.

It’s not good business when the media are only talking about who is going where while under contract at current club. We all know that the media can’t wait to stick the boot into us and we are just openly inviting them to 24/7 365 days of the year.

The draft/trade system has been mentioned for a few years now so people are clocking on to getting over the current system and processes.

I wouldn’t feel guilty over it at all either. Not while you are on the receiving end of the bargain. I’ll be the same once Val gets to the Cowboys. Only difference here is it seems the Sharks will hold firm on not releasing him early.

Won't work, if a club releases a player they are free to negotiate and sign a new deal with whoever they want. NRL already has bag men and shady deals being done behind closed doors and can't do anything to stop it.

No different here. It's sad the NRL is like this but that's the reality of the sport. Nowadays the contract is meaningless, better off keeping the players you want to keep, happy. Otherwise they will leave mid contract. Dogs did not do this, Klem being paid way less than his worth, dogs signes other players on bumper contracts and left Klem on lower wage, other clubs will exploit that.

The clubs don't have to release them. Players can't just walk out of their contracts, they have to be released. Clubs generally don't stand in the way because otherwise they deal with having an unhappy player. That's entirely up to the club to make that choice, nothing the game or clubs can do to change the fact that players will be unhappy if forced to be somewhere they don't wan't to be.

Well that's one less position left to fill in the roster, glad to see him get another season.

I reckon an announcement regarding the signing of Klemmer (if at all) is probably a few days away yet

I like Buhrer but fmd that’s disappointing. Whoever’s idea it was to announce it like that should be looking for a new job.

It was Nathan Ryan. I’ve told him on Twitter “thanks for building our hopes up and letting us down!!!”
