Ken Sio signs with Salford

Very reliable player, not flashy or a game breaker, but gets the job done.

Would have been a good option as a depth player next year.

I guess this means Ross is safe.

I hope this means we give Dennis's a bit of extra funds to stay, I still think he'll kick on very well over the next 18 months.
Has a huge frame with great awareness for he's age.

Good luck to Sio though, he did everything in he's powers for the team.

Hope he does well. He was always solid for us and was unfairly maligned by a lot of our fans. Sad to see him go.

For sure, I can see him bulking up a bit more and becoming a damaging ball runner, similar frame to Oats. Might make a good winger, centre with a little more time.

Unfortunately for this place if you don't hit grade a SOO ready player your sh1te.

Denniss could have a break out year where ever he lands in 2019.
He was looking more and more at home in firstgrade, and a good off season in the gym could see him become a real handful.
In under 20s he loved to hold off defenders with one arm and offload. He was starting to do that towards the end of the year in firstgrade, and if he gets paired with the right winger, it could work well.

I agree. He had a really strong game against the Sharks and defensively put Dugan in a box.

Outside back wise they already have Moga, Ross, Lee, Ramien, SKD. But if Ross sticks around there are only 6 spots left to fill in the top 30. Only one or two of those will be outside backs. Feels like Jennings might happen, and they think they can do better than Sio or Denniss for that last spot...

Ross is still a good chance to leave the club you would think even with Sio going. You don't tell a player he is free to leave if he can, lightly. Plus the article from the Herald stating the Knights are willing to pay some of his wage to move him on shows their intentions. It seems he doesn't factor in to their future plans.

Maybe club has been holding off on offer to Denniss waiting to see what happens with Sio and/or Ross.

I wouldn't be surprised to see an offer to Denniss forthcoming now.

The top 30 rule forces the coaches to have to be a bit more ruthless. We've got limited spots left which we want to fill with new, quality signings. Makes it very hard to keep those off-contract fringe guys like Denniss, Yates, Starling etc. when you are waiting for the market to spit out a few players.

What is the point of the top 30 rule? It just seems to be reducing our depth for no benefit

Top 30 are the only players that can be selected for FG. The 6 development players need to get special clearance from the NRL to be able to play FG ie too many injuries and no one in the top 30 to available for selection.

However I believe the NRL are relaxing these rules to where the development players have to wait until July 1st to be able to play without having to be cleared.

Doubt Dennis will get an offer elsewhere so I'd say he'll take the pie and chips contract we offered.

All the best to Ken did a job for us and did it to the best of his abilities.

We used 29 players this year, and that was with long term injuries to Griffin, Moga, Pearce, Jacob, Watson and Ross, as well as handing out a few freebies to guys like Felise and Starling.

30 should be plenty.

They've pulled his offer mate, nothing for him to take now. To me that feels like Jennings is going to happen.

I feel like if we nag Jennings it’ll only benefit him. Parramatta just didn’t seem the best club for him and his talents. I believe players like Ponga, Pearce and Watson could get Jennings playing back to the best of his abilities and that’s why I believe letting Sio and Denniss go is our gain. We just need a few more depth signings in the backs and the likes of Musgrove and Andrews to develop tenfold in the next 1-2 years.

I think Andrews will be better than Denniss, maybe even this year, but definitely next year.
I've never seen why Musgove is rated so highly, but the coaches seem very keen on him.
We seem to have kept Musgrove over McIntyre, Gibbs and Denniss - all similar types - so he must have something.
