Nathan Brown

Mooney is a great talent scout but he doesn't sign players without the coaches go ahead both Ponga and Pearce said they signed after talking to Brown about his vision for the club ...

Other way round, brown has input mooney final say.

First coach in knights history that isn't in charge of recruitment.

Good model actually, prevents coach making bad short term decisions to save their own arse

Its funny that you guys are talking about this today. Brown was on Nrl360 last night and he was asked about recruitment and what role his plays. He basically said that the coaching staff and management get togeather and decide what players to go after. He sits down and has a chat the player about the team and their potential role. But he doesnt do any negotiating.

Well he wouldnt do the negotiating, that is for the club to do. His role is to coach, Mooney and managements role to negotiate.

Brown, Mooney and Gardner are the three that deserve the credit for our recruitment. I'm sure others at the club have input etc, but they are the three pulling the reins.

I'm sure Mooney doesn't sign/pay a player $700k for 3 years if the coach doesn't want or need him, I am sure it is a combined decision based on need, potential, cost etc. any good recruitment would be credited to all involved and same for the failures, let's at least keep it realistic, it's a wasted arguement.

Bring back Rick Stone to show them how to recruit. Can anyone think of his biggest singing? Was it Costigan?

I am sure Costigan was a Bennett boy, if he came before Bennett then he had prior knowledge but I think he signed same year or possibly later. Costigan was ok, not great but ok.

Hodkinson was easily Stone's biggest signing. It's easy to forget but at the time he was a marquee buy, most of us considered him a Pearce-like signing. Current NSW halfback who we got into a bidding war with the Titans for. He was supposed to come here & be a dominant halfback with a good kicking game, letting Mullo off the leash finally. Remember his last game for the Dogs was against us & Tariq broke Hokko's wrist & we were all thinking that's just our luck to our marquee signing.

Costigan came here straight after the Dragons' premiership, well before it was known Wayne was leaving.

Pearce would be filthy with you and rightly so comparing him to hodko.

Costigan was a beast at the Dragons but another player Bennett ruined. Changed him from a Martin Lang style prop to a bench hooker? Just WTF! Can't work out who got screwed up more under Bennett, Gidley, Uate or Costigan?

Gidley easily. I wonder how we would have went if Boyd never came? Considering how poor He and Gidley were and we used Boyd’s money for a halfback.
