2018 Harold Matts and SG Ball

28-32 to the bulldogs - 1 minute left.
Oh well - I thought we were a very good chance to win this year, but that was a fair effort.

Manly have beaten Parra in the Harold Matts Grand Final 26-18, That's their first Harold Matts Title while Parra were chasing their 21st title

Can't find a list of who won the junior awards last night, but from the video on the Knights site, Thomas Cant won an award in under 16s and Jaron Purcell won another award in under 18s, after winning just about every award possible in under 16s last year.

Matts - Cant, Logan R, Regan won the awards
Ball - Purcell, Best, To'a

Brain Carlson medal = Purcell

Im unsure of who got what - Player of the year - Coaches award - Players player or what ever the awards are.

I do how ever find it difficult & please im not having a crack at the kid, But Purcell winning everything again this year. Congratulations to him.. But Jock Madden won the whole competition SG Ball player of the year yet he cant win his own teams.? I watched a few games & had at least 4 players i thought we ahead of him.. Madden, Crossland, To'a, Best,

Purcell must do a lot of things right that aren't obvious to the casual viewer.
He wins every award from every coach, including for NSW last year and was named in the NSW squad a year young early this year.
It's even more impressive when you take into account that he has played with some very good players for the last 2 years.
I haven't seen him doing more than other forwards like Croker and Gardner, but obviously the coaches have.

According to Toohey's weekly article, 5 Kights are in the NSW under 18s 22 man squad that will be cut to 18 next week.
Crossland - halfback
Madden - 5/8
Gardner - lock, second row
Purcell - lock, second row
Best - fullback, wing, centre, second row

Yes correct. But only 20 man squad named
1st - Penrith 4 players
2nd - Dogs 2 players
3rd - Sharks 1 players
4th - Knights 5 players
5th - roosters 2 players
6th - Manly 0
7th - Raiders 0
8th - Illawarra 1
9th - Parra 3 players
10th - Dragons 1 player
11th Central coast 1 player

TBH 5 players is great for the club but compared to other teams maybe a bit lucky.

Mind you there are key players missing through injury who would of been in the u18s Nsw team.
So it gives other players who wouldnt of been named an opportunity to show case there skills
6 players who i can think of missing through injury
2 players who played Nsw u18s origin a year young last year missing
2 Australian school boys
4 players who all played u16s origin
All 6 players played u16s origin.

So great opportunity for all the players named to show there worth.

I'm a bit surprized Crossland is still in the mix.
He might be our most likely to go on to make a career, but he carried an injury all season and hasn't been at his best.
