Sione Mata'utia re-signs with the Knights

After they play i'll be the voice of reason talking up their positives, while others will be getting out the pitchforks and torches.
Now i'm the voice of reason saying third choice fullbacks/NYC players aren't automatic superstars in red and blue.

If you think Ponga is best described as a third choice fullback/NYC player then there is no doubt that we disagree as to what sort of player he is currently and what he is likely to be

A more accurate description of Ponga, imo, would be a player who will, without doubt, play rep footy within a few years, based on nothing more than what he has shown he is capable of in the limited minutes he's had on the field

Fair to say the club agrees witj this view

was he referring to Watson as a 3rd string half at the rooster and Ponga an NYC player at the Cowboys?
Because then he would be pretty close to correct.

Wah? He said 3rd string fullback/NYC player

While this is technically correct. It's not the most accurate way to characterise Ponga.

The club didn't pay 600k a year for a third choice fullback or an NYC player

I agree with pretty much everything Billy says. But this one I disagree with

I was responding to Billy. He used '50/50' as a conceptual tool to make his point. In responding to him I did the same thing to better describe my point

Any halfwit can see, quite clearly, i wasnt presuming to make a numerical estimate of probability. It was a rudimentary way of depicting the difference between my opinion and Billys,

100% agree

I've only seen a few highlights and one game he played wing - but if his previous coach thought he was worth 600k and was ready to be a starting fullback, he'd have offered him 600k and named him at fullback every week.
I don't say he won't be that in time, but I know his previous coach doesn't think he is right now.

Pretty sure i read an article a few months ago saying Sione suffered all his concussions when under fatigue, i.e in matches when he was playimg a full game or close too it.

So if he stays in the back row he either builds the endurance to play 80 without so much fatigue or he gets subbed off for 20min.

Less fatigue factor in centre/wing so that should fix that problem, just needs to relearn centre and how to beat his man

Awesome a shrimp backrower with no passing game who can't play 80 #signhimupnow

His future has changed so much. When he came through he started out as a winger/fullback but with a view that he would eventually turn into a gun centre when he put some size on, then he got moved to second-row after not offering much attack in the centres & looked at home finally, but 2017 seemed to prove he wasn't ready for it, even brought up very real scares that his career would be over within 2 years. Now he's gonna be playing in the centres again & who knows where his future lies now.

It doesn't take half a brain to realise he'd be under a lot less pressure going back to NSW cup to get the basics down instead of being in the pressure of the top 8 Knights of 2018. If he aces it in 3-4 rounds brillant if not his not stinking up first grade.

All I'm saying is.. Its not easy to make the Nrl. Every player deserves a little bit of respect because they have made the Nrl.
I think the stats are 3% .
Yes every player in the Nrl is of a different standard some better than others,
But all are better than any of us who
1. Have never played the game
2. Have played the game but not of Nrl standard

Yes we are all entitled to our opinions, but be careful how you criticise others. Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Huh?

I'll criticize who I damn please and everyone else can as well, if you have trouble with listening to peoples oppinions than a footy forum, pub, train station, footy game, any public place obviously is a bit much for you to handle.. Your obviously still in high school or a bit simple with this mindset.

That's a reasonable argument. But there's more to it than that imo

1) they'd just resigned Coote (can't play two fullbacks)

2) JT and Taumalolo were off contract and they had limited space to work with as is

Considering the above, there's no possible way they could have kept him, given our offer. And we can't assume to know Green's thoughts. He was likely under the impression that he was going to resign the 18 year old kid for biscuits to play on the wing for a year or two while he had a safe and consistent known quantity in Coote to ensure that undue risk won't derail a premiership defense etc

I think its fair to say that if they had 600k sitting in the kitty, if they could have spent it without upsetting a premiership winning squad, they likely would have spent it on keeping Ponga--the brightest junior talent since Taumalolo

It's one thing that confuses me. I know if I was in charge of the Cowboys, I would at least match the Knights offer which really in today's salary cap, with his talent isn't the worst risk you could take. I would kick Coote to the curb in an instant if it meant keeping around one of the most promising players in a long time. So either the Cowboys don't expect him to reach the heights that is expected of him, or most likely they are just playing it safe & trying to get the best out of their premiership winning squad while they can. It's a very unfair example because Ponga hasn't proven anything yet, but imagine how pissed you would as a Cowboy in 10 years if Ponga turned into another Bulldogs-JT situation, especially if they don't win another premiership with Coote contributing.

Hindsight is one thing. But it’s funny, would JT have become the player he is if he stayed at the dogs? Who knows.

Kenny made a good point about the cows situation when Ponga needed to be resigned.

Coote ads a fair bit to that team. If it’s not broke don’t fix it I say. Sometimes timing is all it is, green probably wanted to keep him but will move on and find the next one to take over from Coote.

Good news, hopefully he can avoid another concussion, at least for this season. I hate to think the outcome from another concussion for him.

He'll be fine in the centres

His tackle rate is 1/4th of what it is in the forwards. And given that nearly all of his concussions occured under fatigue, it seems like all the factors to injury have been removed
