Your team for 2018

Huh? I don’t really understand your post, but right now Dylan Walker is a top 5 centre in the game. You can do better by maybe a couple of players.

In a rough order off the top of my head (when healthy):

1) Chambers
2) Dugan
3) Bird
4) Walker
5) Jennings
6) Roberts
jack bird as number 3? we dodged a massive bullet with him signing with the broncos, most overrated player in the competition and in my opinion it isn't even close!

When healthy, yes. Arguably the best defensive centre in the game, even when compared to Chambers which is a huge wrap. This guy just doesn’t get beat. Strong ball runner too and when they need something to happen, he goes probing and can create. To top it off, he’s tough as nails and just a natural footballer. Put any number on his back and he’ll do an admirable job for you. Guy’s a winner, and he’s only 22 to boot.

natural talent yes, broken body at age 22 with a terrible terrible attitude. Extremely arrogant

The shoulder injury was/is a setback for him. Looking forward to seeing how he goes next season for Broncos but. As for his perceived arrogance, I couldn’t care less as long as he’s performing on the field and not rubbing his teammates the wrong way causing rifts. Obviously wasn’t a big enough deal for Brown as he was all over signing him before Broncos swooped in last minute.

The blokes got arthritis as well. You can only cope so long with meds. Will be interesting to see how far he can go.

Going to be an interesting season next year with the positional headaches Brown is going to have.

We have Watson at 6, but if his form there isn't great Lamb can come in, we have Ponga as an awesome prospect but if he is struggling in the 1 then there are options there also. Injuries will no doubt have an impact also.

We are in the market for another outside back (centre) or quality suggesting Brown isn't locked in to playing Sione at Centre. If we nail a quality Centre Moga isn't going to move to give way as he has the size Brown wants, Ross and Kenny D are locked in no doubt. Sione is the only one I can see moving.

We at some point could see at team along the lines of:

Starting side as posted above:
1. Ponga
2. Ross
3. Moga
4. Sione
5. Kenny-Dowall
6. Watson
7. Pearce
9. D. Saifiti
8. Levi
10. Lillyman
11. Guerra
12. Barnett
13. Buhrer

14. Griffin
15. Fitzgibbon
16. J. Saifit
17. Ese'ese

But could easily see the following taking the field if the above does not pan out.

1. Watson
2. Ross
3. Moga
4. Kenny-Dowall (or other quality Centre not yet signed)
5. Ponga
6. Lamb
7. Pearce
9. D. Saifiti
8. Levi
10. Lillyman
11. Guerra
12. Barnett
13. Buhrer

14. Griffin
15. Fitzgibbon
16. J. Saifit
17. Ese'ese

Fits everyone in, gives us goal kicking, gives ponga more time in 1st grade to find his feet.

Meaney doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar, but he has done everything right.
He was NYC player of the year in 2016.
He was NSW cup player of the year in 2017.
He made NSW under 20s and NSW residents in 2017.
He steadily improved all season in NYC in 2016 and steadily improved all season in 2017.
He was still young enough to play NYC in 2017, but played all seniors.
In the 2 years he has been at the club he has been on a steep improving curve, and there is no reason he won't improve dramatically this off season as well.
He consistently proves himself our fittest and close to our fastest on the training track as well.
We all say we are one back 5 player short, but Meaney, who should be able to play wing as well as fullback, never gets a mention.
My one reservation about him as a winger is that he has never been much of a try scorer for us, but i'd like to see if he can find that skill if we put him on the wing.

I'm not the best one to give feedback on the lower grades, but would he be a possible fit for centre? If he has the skills and improvement in him surely he's worth looking at fitting into the side.

I'm expecting he probably lacks the bulk but that can always be added to.

Yeah i would suspect size would be an issue for him ATM, agree possibility of bulking up definitelty has the skill to play NRL

The reason he didn't see firstgrade last year was because he isn't the strongest guy - or wasn't at the start of last season. He did get more able to compete in a wrestle with seniors as the season went on, and had a strong game in defence for NSW residents. Even so, centres often have to tackle big forwards and do a fair workload in defence, so it wouldn't be where i'd have him (he is still only 20).

Yeah, fair call. Had a feeling that'd be the case. Hopefully he shows enough to seriously push for a wing spot next season.

Another year, 2018, bigger, stronger, smarter could be the difference. I expect him to make his 1st grade debut sometime this year either due to form or injury.
If Pearce and Watson are going really well and something happened to Ponga I don't see any reason to move Watson to fb when Meaney can fill in, it would all come down to form and what best suits, Lamb or Meaney, nice problem to have.

Meaney would probably give himself the best chance of cracking firstgrade if he trained as a winger all off season and played wing in reserves, with Matt Cooper playing fullback.

This will be the tell-tale as to Brown's true intentions. If Watson is moved to cover injuries then the writing is on the wall imo-- Watson is viewed as a utility

as mentioned above, if someone is injured in a position watson can fill (fullback for example), it will completely depend on how watson and pearce are playing together as to whether he will shift into that position.

if they are going great guns and really gelling then there's no way brown will move watson. If they are going ordinary, then he'll shift watson to cover.

just IMO
