2017 Rugby League World Cup

Called it... If only I was back in Australia to put some money on it...

I was really surprised they got back from 16-2 at half-time, I thought it was gonna be too big of an ask to get back. The Lolohea try was a bit of luck & really got them back in it. In the first half I thought their lack of spine class showed as they couldn't seem to finish off any chances well & I think that will catch up to them eventually. The best part about their win is it sets up an interesting final, Tonga will challenge England hard for a spot, while one of Australia or New Zealand will be knocked out before the final. Imagine if the Kiwis can pull one of their freak games out in the semi final & make Australia miss out on the final.

Did anybody recognise how out of shape Papalli was?

I still think it's off the planet that Samoa lose 2 and a draw yet the Irish win 2 and Samoa are playing quarter finals. Ireland would have been much more competitive than Samoa last night

The luck of the Irish didn't come in handy with the draw. Considering how bad the minnow teams are usually in these tournaments, I think all sides bar Samoa, USA, Wales & Italy could have justifiably made the next round. Italy & Samoa were major disappointments.

Levi having a good game, running well from dummy half when the opportunity presents, defending well. Pity the rest of the nz squad seem intent on losing.

Saifiti came on and ran the ball hard. Harder ive seen him ever run it for us. Hopefully he can keep that sort of running going next year.

The way they are playing the game Kurriboy, Danny is being put under all sorts of pressure in defence, with the Fijian forwards running at him.

He has played the full 40 in the first half, great effort for a team making 184 tackles to Fiji's 108. Continued defence may affect his running game and that strapping does not look good.

Lucky Hayne is playing, he has bombed three chances so far.

Massive.

No blame on Levi. He played well but the rest of the side were hell bent on losing.

Hopefully that ends all the arguments from people who are against the new rules of being allowed to play for 2nd tier nations when not selected for 1st tier. This World Cup has been the most entertaining I've seen purely because games are competitive now & we know the minnows can actually beat a top 3 side now.

Most of the Fijian side had the games of their lives.
Mick Potter said before the comp that they weren't going to make up the numbers - they were going to win the cup.
Sounded like he had been drinking too much kava in the Fiji camp at the time, but those guys are going to give it everything they have.
They'll still get destroyed next week - but they'll go down fighting.

New Zealand are just a basket case at the moment. Wouldn't be reading too much into this with the tier 2 nations closing the gap with the top 3 just yet. Wait until next week and we will see how close the gap is or isn't.

The good news about the Kiwis getting knocked out 2 weeks before the final is that we should get Danny back 2 weeks earlier, and our young spine needs as much time together as possible.
