Official: Knights sign Mitchell Pearce on a 4 year deal

I would think the team as a whole would be filthy with it if Lamb is pushed out.

You'd hope that Brown would have learned from the situation that Pearce leaving the Roosters because of the Cronk signing would have the same impact on Lamb if we sign Pearce.

I always expected the relocation of Cronk would result in massive upheavals and disharmony in a number of other clubs, kinda pisses me off to be truthful.

I see what you're saying.

Let's say Lamb leaves and we sign Pearce.
If I was in the team I'd be pretty stoked getting a players his quality. Sucks you lose Lamb but that's footy these days.

We will all get over it.

Wobbles , I like Lamb as a player but honestly he has a year or two before he is at Pearces level, I know Pearce is everyone's favorite whipping boy, but reality is that he is in arguably in the top 6 established halves in the game and if Lamb wants to get better what better way than to learn from someone better.

I Know that goes against the "ME" generations line of thought that they are better than everyone , deserve more money than everyone, know better than everyone, but often reality and experience is a harsh leveler.

Of course, I'm not against bringing in experience. To make the most of an opportunity like this truly needs the key players involved to buy into the plan. If Lamb and Watson welcome having Pearce alongside them, that's a win-win and the club would be making a great investment. Without consensus of the team though it's a risk, you'd play better with guys you view as equals and mates rather than a threat you'd rather keep at arms-length.
 
He'd go well down there, would probably fit in well with the Bra Boys (remember the fun Barba had with those guys).
 
It was tweeted last night the Warriors are keen on Keary which could pave the way for Pearce to stay at the Rooters.
 
If warriors get Keary we should see if they'd release Hingano.
It was largely down to him that we got knocked out of reserve grade this year and he is making a real name for himself in the world cup.

Gummies are fishing, they just got Moylan and Val Homes has been resigned with his eyes on a spine spot. Pearce will throw them on their ear, but They are silly enough to do it though as they are the ones who started the whole "halves revolving door" in the first place by offering overs for a replacement for a successful halves pairing instead of looking after their own first.

The Sharks situation is different from ours as they had a settled and successful FG halves pairing and our current Spine is a "little under done" and needs an injection of experience for the betterment of the team , if we want to be an instant success next year.

People are already ( prematurely ) predicting top 8 , to achieve this drastic changes will need to be made, not many but stiffen up/ strengthen some areas in the Spine.

Our Forwards have size and look Solid with a blend of Experience and Youth , our backs will be threatening Size, speed and skill on both sides, our Spine while loaded with Potential definitely lacks experience and Leadership.

Absolutely. Hingano has been solid just about every time he's played First Grade and has comfortably outplayed his more experienced and higher rated halves partner for Tonga. He'd be an excellent pick up for us if we don't land Pearce.
 
I reckon he will stay to be honest.

I can see Keary moved on.

I think I read Holmes say he resigned to play FB. So if Pearce went there then one of the Sharks will move on.

They literally just signed Moylan to play 5/8,

MITCHELL Pearce has returned from a US holiday for his showdown with the Sydney Roosters over his future, however the landscape at the club may have shifted while he was away.

Senior Roosters officials are understood to have told club chairman Nick Politis to cut Pearce loose if he cannot bring himself to play second fiddle to Cooper Cronk.

Pearce arrived at Sydney airport late Thursday night and when asked if he could work with Cronk, said:

“Obviously if I ... yeah, obviously Cooper would be a player you could play with for sure. He’s the Australian halfback.’’

Pearce has no shortage of suitors, led by Cronulla and Newcastle, hoping to lure him away from Bondi next season with the promise of being their starting halfback.

Before that can happen, Roosters supremo Politis must have a change of heart and allow him to walk out of the club with two years remaining on his deal.

The Daily Telegraph understands some club officials have told Politis he should reconsider his tough stance and allow Pearce to leave if that is what he wants.

Pearce is leaning towards walking if Politis gives him the green light.

“I had a good holiday, I’m still on my holiday break, and I’ll get stuck back into training hopefully soon,’’ Pearce told TV reporters at Sydney airport on Thursday night

“I’ve got another week, we’ll see how we go.’’

When asked about the Roosters not speaking to him before the shock signing of Cronk on a two-year $1.7 million deal, Pearce said: “I haven’t got anything to comment on about all of that.’’

Politis told The Daily Telegraph earlier this month Pearce — a 28-year-old premiership winner and Origin halfback — would improve his game under star No. 7 Cronk.

“Cooper will be good for Mitchell, who knows, he could help Mitchell win a Dally M Medal,’’ Politis said.

“Mitchell has been very good for us but he can go to another level as a halfback with Cronk alongside him.’’

Cronulla have the money and interest, not to mention several players who are already friends with the Blues playmaker.

Newcastle are also cashed-up and keen to enter the race, while Manly would love Pearce to move to the northern beaches, but know they would struggle to table the same sort of money as the Sharks and Knights.

Cronulla captain Paul Gallen said he had been in contact with Pearce, and wrote in his Sporting News column this week:

“I don’t blame Mitchell for being angry at the Roosters for signing Cronk.

“He’s given his all to that club and would have his nose a little out of joint at playing second fiddle to Cronk.

“But I won’t be waiting at Sydney Airport with a contract in hand when he arrives back from his US holiday.

“Mitch is a bloke who needs his space. He doesn’t need me bending his ear and telling him what he should do.

“If he decides he wants out of the Roosters, the Sharks will pick up the phone and express their interest.’’

Mitchell Pearce feels Roosters betrayed him as club faces PR crisis with unhappy player

Deep down the Roosters were hoping Mitchell Pearce would recommit to the club during his holiday in New York and Hawaii. It didn't happen.

Now they are looking for a positive attitude when he turns up to training this week. Without it he may as well ask for a release.

I hear Pearce is still angry with the Roosters. He feels betrayed and the trust he had in the club will be hard to rebuild.

The Roosters are coming to realise they are in for a PR nightmare when it comes to Pearce.

If he stays, there will be pressure on Cooper Cronk should the club stumble. Critics will be calling for the club to reinstate Pearce as chief playmaker. If Pearce goes and succeeds elsewhere, the Roosters will have to wear that, too.


It's lucky Cronk is of strong character. He has adopted his new team already. As he was greeting Roosters and Kangaroos teammate Boyd Cordner he was heard to say "yeah the tricolours". But Cronk has done a lot more than just crack gags with his new teammates. He has also been proactive, calling Pearce to explain why he wants him to stay at the club.

"Those conversations will remain private," Cronk said. "But one of the attractive things about going to that footy club is to play with Mitchell."

Pearce has been bombarded by messages of support from his teammates, telling him they are in his corner and they want him to stay.

"I've been in contact with him whilst he's been on holidays and I didn't want to grill him," Cordner said. "I wanted him to get away from it all, but I've been checking in. It's probably going to be a big week for him. But everyone at the Roosters would love to see him stay. He is a Rooster. At the same time, I understand what he is going through and I'll support him 100 per cent. At the moment he is a Rooster and we hope it stays that way."

Pearce has been overwhelmed by the support from teammates. They clearly believe he is the heartbeat of the club. Pearce has also been flattered by calls from the likes of Paul Gallen and other Sharks players encouraging him to move to the Shire. Manly are also quietly confident they will snare him. But others say Pearce should look outside Sydney – at Melbourne, Townsville or Brisbane – and make a name for himself there. Those clubs have been powerhouses and going to a big, strong club should he leave the Roosters is considered a wise move.

The Roosters will sit down with Pearce in the next few days.

Meanwhile, Luke Keary doesn't want to miss a piece of the pie. If Pearce and Cronk are at the club there won't be huge dollars for Keary who will command a fat deal. It's thought the Gold Coast may have been sniffing around Keary hoping that he will leave. Keary is in talks with the Roosters to extend his stay.

DISGRUNTLED Sydney Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce has officially asked the club for a release from his contract — and the club is expected to grant it.

Pearce returned home from the United States last week and informed coach Trent Robinson of his decision over lunch.

The disappointment of having to play behind Kangaroos halfback Cooper Cronk is the sole reason for his decision to end a decade-long career at the Bondi club.

The Cronulla Sharks, Manly Sea Eagles and Newcastle Knights are the frontrunners to sign the Blues State of Origin halfback, while there has also been interest from Melbourne Storm and Brisbane Broncos.

Manly appear set to make a big play for Pearce, having on Monday released five-eighth Blake Green from the final year of his contract.

The Roosters will not stand in Pearce’s way and are expected to officially announce his contract termination in the next 24 hours.
