Brock Lamb set to leave the Knights

He had a chance to impress in his limited games this year but didn’t take it and ultimately got shafted. Wish him the best of luck but don’t see him getting much first grade time at any other club anyway. If we don’t sign any decent back up halves for next year though we’re practically f***ed if Pearce/Watson go down again, and unluckily for us there is bugger all to pick from.

Better then spending 450-500k on keeping Lamb though.

No chance he gets that. Ferguson, the current Australian winger, just signed for $500K per season. Granted he’s a winger not a half, but still...

Otherwise look at Chad Townsend. Not high quality, but a solid, legitimate first grade halfback who’s won a grand final. I’m sure he re-signed for roughly $500K a season or two back.

Would love to see what Raiders re-signed Aidan Sezer for, out of curiosity. He’s not great and Raiders have been very up down/disappointing at times, but I’ve always liked something about his game and what he can offer. Out of all the average/solid/run-of-the-mill halves in the league, he’s one of my faves.

Either way, Lamb won’t sniff $500K. Not with what he’s produced this year. Right now, he’s a fringe first grade half with some potential.

Lamb would be lucky to sniff 150k anywhere.
Id not offer him over 150k atm and we have plenty in the bank and already invested plenty in him.
If he can get 200k elsewhere than farrrrrrk off.

We'd be offering him 200k if we were polite. Smart option would be the Dogs because he'd probably outplay Foran and form a Newy junior superspine in Meaney, Lamb and Cogger lol.

Coggers has been the better option Lamb this year. No one is worse than Lamb in the Nrl.

Well the dogs will get a few spoons over the next few seasons imo, doubt thats a smart move for Lamb if he wants to make a dollar in the game

Anyone who saw Jarome Luai debut for Penrith will be seriously questioning Lamb as a starting half. I don't know what Jarome's contract situation is but that kid can play.

I was one who wanted to see Lamb partner Pearce instead of Watson. Lamb has been given several chances this season and looked ordinary.

I do think we should be giving him 200k to stay though as backup development halfback. On the proviso he is not a starter and is an understudy.

Reason being, with Cogs leaving, and if Lamb leaves, we don't have any halves in the wings really. And attracting a quality talent on the cusp of first grade, to play second fiddle to Pearce or Watson for years is not going to be appealing.

I'd like to see us bring Tex Hoy into the squad next year as a development player, looked good in his reserve grade highlights. Then find someone from outside the club that has some experience but can't get a start at their club, because we need someone as injury cover. I'm inclined to think that outside of that, we don't really have anyone already here that will be up to it. Worse comes to worse, Ponga can easily play in the halves as fullback will be a lot easier to cover for us.

Sure, Ponga can play in the halves, I have no doubt. But does he want to?

I'd rather keep Ponga all his career if we can, and annoying him, (and his influential dad) by moving him to a position he has said he does not want to be in at the moment, is not a smart decision. Ponga has said he is a fullback.

And attracting a player who is frustrated at their current club as they are not getting a start, by enticing them here to also not get a start would be a pretty tough sell.

Eh, I dunno. Cogger hasn’t impressed me at all. He’s not first grade quality. At least Lamb has flashed at times.

This is true. There have been at times where it may be a confidence thing but I have not seen any of it this year whatsoever

If we had injuries & no viable halves options, I seriously doubt Ponga would begrudge Brown asking him if he could play in the halves to cover for a while. I can even remember when Ponga first arrived, they were asking him about where he'd play & he said if they were to start him on the wing or even in lower grades, he would do what the coaches think is best for the team. Obviously I know that is just modesty & as a 19-year old coming into a new club, he was never going to be cocky about it, he believes he's a fullback, but as I said, I can't see him begrudging a move there if made necessary by injuries. We're not asking him to move there permanently.

We don't wanna be changing our whole spine around for 1 injury though, so just need to find one solid player floating around that will be able to do a job. Not necessarily the Jarome Luai type that won't come unless they get NRL time, but guys like Ryley Jacks who just do a job when needed.
