He seems to have been struggling with some sort of leg injury for the last 18 months and rarely manages to play more than 3 or 4 games in a row.

In the most stunning upset of the Intrust Super Premiership season, the Newcastle Knights have snapped a five-game losing streak with a 40-16 demolition of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at McDonald Jones Stadium this afternoon.
Defying their last-placed position on the table, the young Knights outfit – led by classy half Brock Lamb and 19-year-old five eighth Tex Hoy – virtually clinched just their third win for the season with a devastating six-try first half attacking blitz to open up a 30-4 half-time lead.
It was just Newcastle’s third win for the season – and their first since beating Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles (May 13) on Mothers’ Day back in Round 10.
After gaining field position on the back of two early penalties, Knights winger Tom Hughes burrowed over with great strength from dummy half down a short left-hand blind side for his – and Newcastle’s – first try in the fifth minute. Brock Lamb converted from touch to give Newcastle a 6-0 lead.
Newcastle then doubled their lead in the 12th minute when a nice Lamb face ball found second rower Brodie Jones who strolled over almost untouched to score. Lamb converted for a 12-0 lead.
With the home side continuing a dominance built on a remarkable first half completion rate of 18 from 19 sets at 98%, Hoy made a scything 30 metre break up the middle of the field in the 18th minute.
Three tackles later, a left side spread saw returning centre Nathan Ross beat his man down the left to score wide out for a 16-0 lead after Lamb missed the conversion from touch.
By this stage, Newcastle was making ground through the centre of the Canterbury defence almost at will to set up further dominant field position – and were rewarded with the most spectacular try of the match in the 20th minute.
A high Lamb cross-field kick saw winger Brent Naden leap above his opponent and brilliantly pluck the ball out of the sky and crash down for the try. Lamb hooked the conversion but Newcastle were keeping up with the clock for their 20-0 lead.
Canterbury finally got some field position of their own in the 25th minute – when five eighth Josh Cleeland sent second rower Bronson Garlick away for an easy try down the left off a nicely timed face pass. Cleeland missed the conversion, but the visitors were at least on the board at 20-4 down.
Canterbury then turned the football over from the restart set to open the door for Newcastle to pick up their free-flowing attack.
Hoy took the chance with both hands five minutes from half-time when he burst through token Canterbury defence for a 20-metre solo burst and try to extend the home side’s lead to 26-4 with Lamb’s conversion.
Then, on the stroke of half-time, Newcastle completed arguably their best 40 minutes of the season in style when they switched play from a right side Lamb cross-kick back to the left through six pairs of hands for Hughes to score his second try in the corner.
Lamb missed the conversion from the touchline, but Newcastle held a commanding 30-4 half-time lead to leave Canterbury stunned and shell-shocked.
After a deft Hoy grubber kick in behind the static Canterbury defence saw Lamb easily win the race to score 10 minutes into the second half, Newcastle threatened to turn the match into a rout at 36-4 after Lamb converted his own try.
Canterbury then showed some greater commitment in defence to stem the bleeding of points for the next 20 lacklustre minutes, even though they could not convert their own limited chances through a series basic errors and conceding of penalties.
Newcastle also failed to convert try-scoring opportunities – Naden being tackled after an intercept and 65-metre burst and Hughes dropping the final pass down his flank with a try on – before a left-hand blind side play with 10 minutes left saw Hughes take the final pass and complete his hat-trick of tries in the corner.
Lamb hooked the conversion, but Newcastle were well and truly ‘home and hosed’ with a 42-4 lead.
Newcastle then put the cue firmly back in the rack in the closing stages – allowing Canterbury to score three late consolation tries to make the final score more respectable.

Highlights of the game.
Not mentioned in the reviews were the long, flat passes from Hoy to Ross that set up a few of those tries.
Hoy has been getting better and better at that long pass. I think he's been pretending to be Ponga in the back yard.

It's funny that Felise and Hosking look similar in build but if you look at their records, Felise always has a lot of metres and not too many tackles, and Hosking always has short metres and a heap of tackles.
70 minutes and 44 tackles from Hosking would be more impressive if he ran more than 80 metres.
57 minutes and 133 metres from Felise would look more impressive if he made more than 20 tackles.

Overall good team stats with plenty of shared work, as long as each is making lots of tackles or ground team is ok, end result a good win, nice to see new guy JJ doing good, not dynamite but good.

Kurtis Dark getting a run is really well deserved.
Brown is talking about Starling and Ross being in the mix for firstgrade, so I'd say they are training with the top squad.
Brilliant for Tom, even if he is just training. I see Starling is named for under 20s, but 3 other hookers are named on the bench.
Fermor must be in camp with Qld.
Jones and Dark back together could be interesting. They are both very smart guys and great friends. They put on some interesting plays when they get together.

Surprised with Yates at prop, know he needs game time but would have thought better at lock or 2nd row with Saulo or Amey at prop, need props going well to put pressure on 1sts, hope JJ goes well

Young goal kicking gun rewarded for ISP Jets encounter

He's been on the radar of ISP Newcastle Knights coach Rory Kostjasyn for a while, and finally will get his opportunity to impress.
Kurtis Dark has had the no. 11 jersey locked down for the Jersey Flegg side for most of the season.
This weekend the solid forward has been promoted to front the Newtown jets.
"We have been wanting Darkey to get an opportunity because he deserves it and has been playing really well in the 20s," Kostjasyn commented.
"He's the highest point scorer in that competition at the moment so looking forward to giving him his chance."
The crafty goal kicker is sitting comfortably as the highest point scorer at 144 in the Under 20s, well clear of the next contender at 97.
That could mean some competition for current reliable ISP boots man, Brock Lamb.
"I wouldn't mind him to kick because he kicks pretty well, but he'll have to argue with lamby," Kostjasyn laughed.
Another 20s recruit which has proved his worth this season has been second rower Beau Fermor.
But his form hasn't gone un-noticed, with the youngster getting the call-up to Origin.
"Beau Fermor has been selected in the Under 20s Queensland State of Origin squad so he's unavailable for selection this week," he said.
After an inspiring defensive display last week, in ISP's crushing win against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, Tex Hoy gets another nod in the halves.
Christian Hazard makes his way back from a six-week injury, while Tom Cronan will take his place back on the wing.
"Tom has been really unlucky the last couple of weeks, we had guys from our full-time squad declared fit late in the week and unfortunately Tom has been the one to miss out, so it's good to be able to give him a game," Kostjasyn stated.
The ISP Coach admits the fire power in his forward pack was a deciding factor in last week's game.
New recruit JJ Felise in particular offering what the side has been missing in previous matches.
"A couple of nice off-loads which we were able to play some ad lib footy off the back of, so I think JJ and our forward pack were really good," explained Kostjasyn.
As a feeder team for the Cronulla Sharks, who along with the Knights also have a bye this week, Newtown is expected to stack their side with plenty of NRL experience this Saturday.
The sixth-placed Jets will also be looking to keep the momentum swinging their way after a massive victory against the Wentworthville Magpies.
"Newtown are coming off a big win, 50-20 against Wentworthville, so a tough challenge for us, with a few first-grade guys dropping back," he said.
"They play a lot of footy, their forwards are skilful, their halves are very crafty and I'm not sure what is going to happen with their team.
"They are flying at the moment."
The good news, consistent forward Luke Yates has come into the side, after being 18th man for NRL last week.
"Yatesy is available this week, so it was a good opportunity for the guys to play against the best quality opposition," Kostjasyn added.
"We can then get a good idea of how their development is going for the younger guys and for the guys that are pushing for first grade selection, they get to compare themselves and push their case."

Interesting bit in that is Tex Hoy putting on an inspiring defensive display.
You never know if a kid in his first game of seniors will be able to defend, so a half who is still young enough to play 20s for another year doing well in defence is a big deal.
Tex is a decent size for a half, so it's all good signs.
