Off contract options

I thinking this the other day, people say we dodged a bullet missing Jack Bird ( which I disagree with ) but I think the bigger bullet would have been paying 1Million for Foran.

Overrated back in his Manly days IMO and now he looks barely first grade standard

Would have been the Hodkinson signing all over again.

I was just thinking the other week we could really use his Hodko’s goal kicking and game management right now with Pearce injured, maybe we let the wrong halfback leave early ?

Bird is a difficult one because he has a shorter resume that looks good on the back of winning a premiership with the sharks and from that playing origin.
Playing for a new team with no halves direction or forward pack doesn't help either.

He's a good player, just wants to play footy & wants to win. But he's a bit-part player that should work off the back of other players, not worthy of being a main playmaker or on big money. For those reasons, the Broncos have a dud.

But as mentioned Foran just has not looked good for any stretch of period since he left Manly and in fact it's damning that teams have looked better without him. Poor dogs got rid of Des a year too late

And he's on like a 4-year contract? I didn't even have to see him play this year to think there's no way he'll make it to the end of that contract. The Dogs are stuffed.

I think so, 4 years is obsurd. The dogs literally have to moneyball their roster for a few years since they are going to have so much dead money over the next few years. They best hope Foran is medically retired or if they release him take the cap hit early.

It was a bit of a three way race for worst buy of the year between him, Moylan and Cronk but Moylan has picked up his game a tad. I think if he stayed at the sharks for less money it wouldnt have looked as bad.

So after looking through the off confract options I've identified the following SQUAD PLAYERS we should target imo

Jamanye Isaako
Justin Olam
Tui Kamacamicka
Jack Hetherington
Kaide Ellis
Peni Terepo
Shaun Lane

Wouldn't break the bank on these guys but I think they would give the squad good depth and compete for first grade spots

Isaako would obviously need a decent offer but the rest would probably come for marjet value for first grade opportunities. Hetherington is another guy I would consider offering a bit more to get up here, he has great line speed something we lack.

Courier mail think there is more to the Bellamy/Bennett coaching story which maybe affect Pangais and other players' decisions to re-sign but why not announce it already if they are so sure to stay

Doubt he'd move from Sydney but if we needed more backs Hopoate could be an option.

I think TPJ and co would be happy enough to play under Bellamy, considering his standing in the game

He still carries a fairly decent salary, but he would be a great man to have in the squad. Good person good role model and very reliable

Id play for any coach or club for 700k.
Though when multiple clubs are offering roughly the same, id choose the one thats most likely to help my game and career with rep/titles etc

Yeah maybe,
See how we look in 2yrs and things mite be different.
Broncos always a chance to win the comp despite not winning one for a while, the grand plan is for us to become like them but I don’t think anyone can stay up the top like for so long except the Storm and Broncos.

As for rep honours playing for Tonga he’ll get picked playing anywhere

Storm will be a mess in 2yrs time.
No more smith, cronk, slater, bellemy.

I'd be astounded if Smith doesn't slot straight into a coaching role, maybe after a year off.

It's a call I stand by, if he wanted it I reckon the Storm would hand him the keys as soon as he wanted them.

Can't stand the guy, but he has 1st grade coach written all over him
