It was a good tackle, he was so close could almost have reached out and scored and yes bet if you talked to Ross he would agree. Poor selection of tackle, not as bad as dropped ball or scrum loss, funny how game is 80mins long but game is decided in a few minutes by a few errors.

Really? They were making meters at will, we struggle to make 40m from a set. That leads to poor last tackle kicks, leading to poor field position, leading to ample opportunities for them in great field position. It means those penalties put us under immense pressure, those bits of luck tend to be happening in our 10-20m line when we are under big pressure, which leads to those lucky moments going against us.

It's easy to point out wide and say we **** out there. But that is looking at it way too simply.

Changes, I'd be putting Yates in every week he can. He can replace lillyman or heighington for all I care. I'd be dumping Sione and putting anybody else there, if they can stay in the line they will be a 100% improvement. Levi came on way too late in the game to have any desired impact. He is a decisive, piercing attacking player. We need him to be running against tired defenders, bringing him on part way through the second half is a waste.

I'd be rotating Griff to lock and spelling Barnett when Levi comes on and I'd be bringing Levi on with 15 minutes left of the first half, taking him off after 15 minutes of the second. Rotate Griff back to hooker and bring barnett back on.

Heres the bloke who gave it to me for the last 12 months calling out Sione as a hater.

Hey little man apologies?

Extremely disappointing game today. Being a QLD’er and only being able to see a game a year, I’d really like to go see one where we win. 7 losses in a row now I have witnessed. Never seen them win. Perhaps I’m a bad luck charm and should stay at home?!

At the stadium today, there was a kid sitting in front of me with a knights jersey on. By the end of the game, he had his brothers Titans hat and flag and was cheering the Titans last two tries and Ash Taylor’s field goal.

Yep Fitzgibbon has scored what 13 tries from 10m out running 1on1 and over players?
Today he got chopped down be a textbook tackle by a much smaller guy.

Id say Ross would of dropped Lee with a legs tackle instead of trying to go high on a guy 10cm taller ans 15kg bigger.

The problem with that argument is previously Ponga would be right at the line when he gave the ball to fitz on the charge. No low down tackle at that range would stop him getting over.

Today, Ponga gave the ball to fitz much further out, and his pass to fitx was from much further away, giving the D more time to react, and a low down tackle was possible, and in that situation encouraged as going high as a little bloke would result in him being carried over. Low down was the only tackle option.

The problem with the hit em low tackling technique is it will not work at NRL level, the player will simply offload the ball. If that tackling style still worked, and was effective in todays game, then coaches would be getting players to tackle that way.

Argument? Id say a statment :shrug:following Danknights post.
Are you even thinking about what your typing here tonight?

Much as we like to pick on and blame individuals it is the whole squad, players, coaches etc that have to accept the blame, if an individual is to blame for consistent losses then coach etc are to blame for continuing to select them. I have no doubt they are all trying, some achieving better than others some making mistakes that seem unforgivable but a loss shouldn't be a license to further a campaign of hate against any player, rightly or wrongly. Bad enough we lose without being vindictive, I hate loosing too.

The only guys who can realistically be brought in are Heighington, Buhrer, Yates, Cogger, Stone, Denniss. No one else in the lower grades is ready.

Of course I am, change the word to whatever you wish, the point is still the same. Your insistence that the low down tackle is the way to go, and still has a place in todays game is just wrong.

This was a crucial game in the context of our season. I hope Browny rips paint off the walls.

It shows exactly where we are...

Ese Ese, Pearce, Ponga and I guess Watson have added some spark to attack...

But our D is the EXACT same it has been for the last 5 years...

Sione needs to be replaced, I don't care who and I don't care how...

Watson has improved.

Ese looked much better this week.

The twins need to go, they make too many errors and play the ball to slow and don't have an offload.

Brown needs to recruit a few more players for 2019

Sione has been replaced, we need a backup for Moga though and a replacement for Sio.

So about 3 or 4 forwards and 2 backs...

Ohhhh farrrrk off with your commonsense trolling Frank

Its tried and tested through decades of elusive runners. It would be VERY effective against structure. Its simply not a 1v1 tackle like you are making out. In fact If you watch all great defenders they all tackle the "old school" way. It's being coached into them the 3 man tackle but under structure it just creates scattered middles and short edges. Especially this knights side who can't defend on a good day let alone week in week out.

im a queenslander as well going to be at the game next sunday against the sharks. I was confident we were in for a good chance when i booked flights before the pearce injury. I have only seen newcastle win live once against the titans that was down in newcastle score was 50-22 i think maddog and uate ran riot that day. Hopefully the boys can put in a better peformance for me next weekend than today.
The most dissapointing thing about today was when we got eight in front i thought we were going to really kick away from them. Then dan dropped the ball and we pretty much didnt get the ball back after that.

Lol, I've already gone through why it doesn't work any more, in other threads. It's clear it doesn't work as if it did coaches would coach to it. End of story!

It works brilliantly, its not "used" as getting 3 in the tackle makes for a 5 second play the ball and allows for teams to have 125kg props.

If the interchange drops and players start getting smaller i bet the low down textbook tackle will be seen a lot more.
I seen it 30 times today alone.
One was on Fitzgibbon which started this roundabout mute argument.

Well I guess it's a mute argument as it's on a forum with no sound. :)

And again, you can use whatever word you like, it is not "used" in todays game as it is not effective. As soon as the player hits the deck you have the refs yelling at the tackler to get off and let em up.

The D would be caught offside and the team would be giving up massive metres. Today, it is all about slowing the play the ball down, hold them up in the tackle and then, get them to the ground. This gives the D time to turn and get back onside.

In "Todays" game, the tackle is no longer "effective".

Arguing over the word effective, or used is semantics.

As a team, I disagree. The difference between past years has been Ponga and Pearce.

Without Pearce we have returned to our regular plod, even having one of the best players in the world (at the moment) cannot lift us.

This club has a huge culture problem, week in week out we see the same lack of enthusiasm from the team. Like they are going through the motions with no passion.

Serious questions was asked earlier, do we actually have a dedicated D coach? Who is it?

Bennet had one thing right a lot of our players are just happy to play first grade each week.
